Barry Oliver is Manager at Standon House.
Barry joined the team as Assistant Manager before stepping into his current role. His background spans many years as a healthcare assistant in both hospitals and care homes, and he had worked here before joining us full time, so he knows this home well.
Qualified with an NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care, Barry is a steady and supportive presence for both residents and staff. He is a consistent advocate for residents living with dementia and believes strongly that a rich and meaningful activities programme is central to a good quality of life, not an afterthought.
Barry's own grandmother has stayed at Standon House. He knows what it feels like to entrust someone you love to a care home, and that shapes everything about how he does his job.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.
| What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe | ||
|---|---|---|
|
Infection control is taken seriously at Standon House and is embedded into our day-to-day operations rather than treated as a tick-box exercise. Our practices are guided by national infection control guidance and kept under regular review. We have a named Infection Control Lead who oversees our practices and ensures we remain compliant with current guidance. Regular infection control audits are carried out to identify areas for improvement and maintain consistent standards across the home. Our cleaning products are selected specifically for their efficacy against infection, and both domestic and care staff receive training on correct dosing and usage, as even the right product used incorrectly offers limited protection. Hand sanitiser is positioned throughout the home and all staff, residents and visitors are encouraged to use it regularly. Appropriate PPE is worn according to need and is readily available to both staff and visitors throughout the home. Clinical and hazardous waste is managed as separate streams to minimise risk to residents and staff alike. Our laundry is processed at high temperatures to ensure linens and clothing are handled to the highest hygiene standards. In the kitchen, our dishwasher includes a sterilisation cycle which is used when additional hygiene measures are required. All staff are actively encouraged to take up flu and COVID vaccinations each season, and we support residents to access both flu and COVID vaccination programmes as a matter of course. We maintain a close working relationship with our GPs, with regular check-ins both in person and virtually. This means that any early signs of infection in a resident are identified and acted upon quickly, rather than being left to escalate. To protect our residents, many of whom are vulnerable, we kindly ask visitors to postpone their visit if they are feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms of infection. It is a small ask that makes a big difference to the people we care for. Should an infection be identified, we act quickly to contain the spread, keep families informed and ensure the affected resident continues to receive the care they need. Families are always welcome to speak to our team if they have any questions or concerns about infection control. Our approach is one of continuous vigilance, keeping residents safe while maintaining the warm, homely environment that defines life at Standon House. |
