Kate Martin is Home Manager at St. Margaret's Care Home.
With a nursing career that began in 2010, I have gained extensive experience across various NHS settings before transitioning into the care home sector—a field that has become my true professional passion.
Throughout my career, I’ve held key leadership roles including Clinical Lead, Deputy Home Manager, and Head of Care Lead Nurse. Alongside these positions, I’ve continued working with local healthcare agencies, supporting vital services such as the NHS, Marie Curie, and St Columba's Hospices. My clinical background spans across General Surgery, Renal and GI, Gynaecology, Medical Assessment Unit, Cardiac High Dependency, Medicine of the Elderly, and Palliative Care.
Currently, as a Home Manager and Registered Nurse, I thrive in the dynamic and fast-paced world of care. What I enjoy most is the opportunity to shape person-centered services that reflect the true needs of each individual, all while overseeing care from every angle.
St Margaret's Care Home offers a wide range of care services, including nursing, residential, dementia, respite and palliative care. Located in the welcoming area of Newington, the home is conveniently close to several parks, golf courses, and local amenities, providing residents with both comfort and easy access to the surrounding community.
The home features a well-designed layout across three floors, with each floor offering its own living and dining areas to ensure that peace and quiet are always within reach. Every room is furnished and decorated to an exceptionally high standard, creating a warm, homely environment.
St Margaret's Care Home boasts beautiful outdoor spaces, including a large main garden with raised flower beds, accessible from the ground floor. Additionally, there are two patio gardens on the first and second floors, providing fantastic views of Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags, which residents can enjoy at their leisure.
The on-site chefs prepare fresh, nutritious meals daily, offering a varied menu with options to suit all tastes. Special dietary requirements are catered for with care and attention.
A dedicated activities coordinator leads a comprehensive programme of events and excursions, designed to keep residents engaged and stimulated. While participation is encouraged, it is always optional, and activities are planned in close consultation with residents and their families to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and fulfilling calendar.
