Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

At Oakbank Care Home, the safety and well-being of our residents is at the heart of everything we do. We achieve this through:

Person-Centered Risk Assessments - Individual risk assessments are completed and regularly reviewed.

Care plans are tailored to each resident's needs, preferences, and abilities.Risks relating to falls, mobility, nutrition, skin integrity, medication, and health conditions are closely monitored.

Safeguarding - All staff receive safeguarding training and understand their responsibility to protect residents from harm, abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Any concerns are reported immediately and managed in line with safeguarding procedures.

Safe Staffing and Training - Appropriate staffing levels are maintained 24 hours a day. Staff receive ongoing training in areas including moving and assisting, infection prevention and control, medication administration, dementia care, first aid, fire safety, and safeguarding. Staff competency is regularly assessed to ensure safe practice.

Medication Safety - Medicines are stored, administered, and disposed of safely. Regular audits are completed to ensure compliance with best practice. Residents are supported to understand and participate in their medication management where appropriate.

Infection Prevention and Control - High standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout the home. Hand hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are promoted. Outbreak management procedures are in place to protect residents and staff.

Falls Prevention - Residents are assessed for falls risk and appropriate support measures are implemented. Mobility aids are checked regularly and used correctly. The environment is kept free from hazards and well-lit to reduce risks.

Health and Wellbeing Monitoring - Residents' physical and mental health are monitored regularly. Strong relationships are maintained with local healthcare professionals, including GPs, district nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals. Any changes in health are identified and acted upon promptly.

Safe Environment - Regular health and safety checks are completed. Fire safety systems are tested and maintained. Equipment is serviced and inspected in accordance with regulations. Emergency procedures are in place for incidents such as power failures, severe weather, or loss of utilities.

Supporting Independence - Residents are encouraged to remain as independent as possible while receiving the support they need. Choice, dignity, privacy, and respect are promoted in all aspects of care.

Listening and Learning - Resident and family feedback is actively sought and acted upon. Incidents, accidents, complaints, and near misses are reviewed to identify learning opportunities and improve safety. Quality assurance audits are carried out regularly to ensure high standards of care.

At Oakbank Care Home, keeping residents safe means not only protecting them from harm but also supporting them to live fulfilling, meaningful lives in a warm, caring, and secure environment.
