Jane Abdoh is Manager at Woodend Care Home.
I’m Jane and I joined Woodend as Home Manager in June 2023.
I became a nurse because I wanted to look after people. I qualified in 1978 and have worked in the NHS and the private sector. I also worked overseas in Abu Dhabi for 10 years.
Throughout my career I have always been passionate about care of the elderly, which is the reason I joined the care sector 25 years ago. Care of the elderly is complex - some have many physical needs or may be living with dementia. The work is so rewarding though, and residents have such wonderful tales to tell. Part of my role is also to support their loved ones, who also become part of our family.
Woodend offers a welcoming atmosphere to residents who require residential, nursing or dementia care. For those who need short term respite care the home is also an ideal choice. On sunny days, residents can benefit from visiting the large landscaped garden, or relax on the patio area to enjoy the warm weather. Each private bedroom boasts under-floor heating, profiling beds and a 24-hour call system which help residents to live as independently as possible in a safe environment. New large 'Super Suite' rooms boast lovely aspect views out over the gardens to the front of the home and include a wet room and space to accommodate items of your choice. The home works hard to cater for any special dietary requirements and seeks regular feedback on mealtime options to ensure everyone enjoys the food offered. Regular reminiscence groups are organised for residents to help them live well with dementia and engage residents with activities. Gentle exercise is encouraged in the form of armchair aerobics to stimulate residents and keep people active.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |
---|
Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.
