Barty House Nursing Home - Care Home
Meet The Manager

David Willis is Home Manager at Barty House Nursing Home.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 14 years and the Manager at Barty House for the past 4 and a half years. I am passionate about providing the highest quality of care to all our residents.

“We’re proud to say we have seen many of our residents transformed by coming to live here. They are given a new lease of life, thanks to high-quality person-centred care and the opportunity to build a new life.”

David Willis

Barty House Nursing Home offers first-rate residential nursing care in the picturesque Kent village of Bearsted, just outside Maidstone. Set within a magnificent Georgian listed building and surrounded by extensive private gardens, the home combines historic charm with modern, purpose-built facilities to provide comfort, dignity, and compassionate care for every resident.

Life at Barty House is warm, welcoming, and enriching. Our wellbeing managers run a varied programme of creative, musical, and fitness activities, as well as regular outings tailored to residents’ interests. For relaxation and self-care, the on-site hair and beauty salon offers a peaceful space for therapeutic ‘me time’.

Dining is an important part of daily life, and our menus are both nutritious and varied, ensuring residents always enjoy high-quality, home-style meals. We strive to create a true home-from-home with a strong family feel, where residents feel valued and included.

Residents' views are central to the way we operate, and their feedback helps shape the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring Barty House remains a place of comfort, community, and exceptional care.

Our Building and Facilities

Barty House Nursing Home provides a high standard of accommodation for up to 59 residents. The characterful rooms in the older part of the building come in various sizes with en-suite toilet and washroom facilities. Their traditional windows overlook different aspects of the garden, offering captivating views at any time of year.

The bright, spacious bedrooms in our contemporary extension all have en-suite wetrooms, and many have direct access to the courtyard garden.

Our welcoming reception area leads into an airy and cheerful conservatory, a popular place for our residents to enjoy the sunshine.

The communal areas, such as the glass-fronted Willow Lounge overlooking the Kent countryside, are all designed to provide comfortable spaces to socialise with guests or other residents or take part in a variety of stimulating or therapeutic activities. The dining room offers an exceptional dining experience.

There is lift access to all floors, and all are wheelchair accessible.

Glorious grounds surround the house, from the traditional English gardens at the front to the wheelchair-accessible courtyard area at the centre of the new building. The summer house provides a delightful place to sit and enjoy the outdoors, and also doubles as Santa’s grotto at Christmas!

The gardens are inhabited by rabbits and many types of birds, so there is always something interesting to look at!

Activities Are So Important

We have an active social life in our home with plenty of opportunities to make new friends and participate in a variety of interesting activities and day trips.

This is important because an active life can help to keep you more alert, mobile and happier, with better health and wellbeing overall.

Our activities co-ordinators create a monthly programme of activities - from entertainments, such as visiting singers and film matinees, to painting and crafts, baking, gardening, quizzes and yoga. If your preferred hobby isn’t on the list, we can support you to continue with it. Even if you find moving about difficult, it is still important to get as much exercise as possible, so we also organise gentle exercise sessions, to help keep you mobile.

Family and friends are welcome to join in with activities, and we also organise special events (like our annual summer fête, for example) to which we invite your family, friends and local community groups. If you like to get out and about, we can arrange for someone to go shopping with you and the activities team also arranges group trips and meals out.

Or it might be that what you want is as simple as to read, watch TV or listen to the radio in the quiet of your own room. Or someone to sit with you and read the paper, talk about things that are important to you, or help you keep in touch with your loved ones via post, email or Skype. Whatever you prefer, the choice is yours.
