Kelly Gough

Pendle Brook is a specialist residential and residential dementia care home based in the small town of Oswaldtwistle on the border of Accrington. Purpose-built with special consideration to those living with dementia, our care home is spacious yet warm and welcoming and has been specifically designed to minimise the stress and confusion often associated with dementia. For example, the wide corridors and abundant communal areas make it easy to stroll around and enjoy the space, while intentional use of colour and pictures aids orientation.

The home is perfectly situated within the local Oswaldtwistle community, with just a short walk to local pubs, the Civic Arts Centre and Theatre, Rhyddings Park, the famous Oswaldtwistle Mills shopping village and garden centre… and a rather tempting fish and chip shop! There is also a bus stop just outside the home for trips further afield.

Activities Co-ordinator

Before joining the Pendle Brook team, I ran a children’s activity/party business and I quite often went into care homes and ran activities alongside the residents. I found the whole experience incredibly rewarding, so I was keen to get involved when the role of activities coordinator came up at Pendle Brook. I find working with the residents living with dementia particularly rewarding and love to see their faces come to life, especially through singing and dancing. My role is very rewarding, I thoroughly enjoy making a difference in the lives of the residents I work with and aim to make every day special for them.

Activities Are So Important

The choice of activities on offer at Pendle Brook is almost endless. Photography, baking, trips to the seaside, park walks, crafts, massage, cinema, theatre…and more. We’re very much open to suggestions too. And for those with green fingers (or even those without!) there is always the option for a spot of gardening, tending the beautiful flowers and shrubs in our raised flower beds or growing vegetables to enjoy with lunch or an evening meal.
