Vacant

Pendle Brook is a specialist residential and residential dementia care home based in the small town of Oswaldtwistle on the border of Accrington. Purpose-built with special consideration to those living with dementia, our care home is spacious yet warm and welcoming and has been specifically designed to minimise the stress and confusion often associated with dementia. For example, the wide corridors and abundant communal areas make it easy to stroll around and enjoy the space, while intentional use of colour and pictures aids orientation.

The home is perfectly situated within the local Oswaldtwistle community, with just a short walk to local pubs, the Civic Arts Centre and Theatre, Rhyddings Park, the famous Oswaldtwistle Mills shopping village and garden centre… and a rather tempting fish and chip shop! There is also a bus stop just outside the home for trips further afield.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We require all visitors to provide a negative Covid test before entering the building. We take visitors temperatures and request they complete a declaration form too. We’ve also been working closely with our local council to ensure we’re going above and beyond the government guidelines.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

We have a dedicated room which we’re using for visits. The space is cleaned after each visit and left for at least 15 mins and ventilated before the next use.

Cheryl Price
Cheryl Price
Deputy Manager

I have worked for Rochcare for over 5 years and first joined the team in an administration position. I also worked as a Senior Care Assistant at Bank Hall when I needed to gain further experience and insight into health and social care. I have now been promoted to Office Manager at Pendle Brook and have completed my Level 2 in Business Administration. I am also currently working towards my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

Claire Rothwell
Claire Rothwell
Activities Co-ordinator

Before joining the Pendle Brook team, I ran a children’s activity/party business and I quite often went into care homes and ran activities alongside the residents. I found the whole experience incredibly rewarding, so I was keen to get involved when the role of activities coordinator came up at Pendle Brook. I find working with the residents living with dementia particularly rewarding and love to see their faces come to life, especially through singing and dancing. My role is very rewarding, I thoroughly enjoy making a difference in the lives of the residents I work with and aim to make every day special for them.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Mealtimes offer an opportunity for socialising in one of our three lovely dining rooms and are an enjoyable part of life here at Pendle Brook. However, we recognise that the dining room environment may not be appropriate for everyone so those who are more comfortable eating in another part of the home, such as their bedroom or one of the lounges, are supported to do so.

Between meals all sorts of snacks and drinks are available including nutritious milkshakes and smoothies, homemade flapjacks, fruit and cake fresh from the oven. As eating difficulties can often go alongside dementia, we always keep a good stock of favourite eats in the cupboards and are experts at quickly rustling up a healthy soup or fresh sandwich.

Activities Are So Important

The choice of activities on offer at Pendle Brook is almost endless. Photography, baking, trips to the seaside, park walks, crafts, massage, cinema, theatre…and more. We’re very much open to suggestions too. And for those with green fingers (or even those without!) there is always the option for a spot of gardening, tending the beautiful flowers and shrubs in our raised flower beds or growing vegetables to enjoy with lunch or an evening meal. Family members are also very welcome to join in with the activities here. In fact, the more the merrier!
