Weybourne care home, located in the leafy heart of Abbeywood in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, is a care facility providing residential care for older people living with dementia.

Weybourne provides a wealth of support services for people living with dementia, with the aim of not just providing care and comfort, but also a new, positive and more engaging stage in their lives. The team of qualified and attentive staff provides 24-hour person-centred dementia care.

The home provides a central courtyard garden that is safe and secure allowing residents to relax and enjoy outdoor activities.

At the heart of Weybourne is its philosophy of care, The Eden Alternative, whereby social interaction and engagement is encouraged and boredom is eradicated by addressing the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom within the home.

Activities Are So Important

Boredom and loneliness can be a real problem as you get older and are less able to do the things you love.  Our activities and philosophy of care aims to eradicate these issues.

Our Philosophy of Care is The Eden Alternative which is based on the core belief that ageing should be a continued stage of development and growth, rather than a period of decline.  In a culture that typically views aging as a period of decline, the Eden Alternative philosophy asserts that no matter how old we are or what challenges we live with, life is about continuing to grow. The Eden Alternative seeks to cure loneliness, not with medication, but by providing residents with companionship and surrounding them with life

Studies show that implementation of the Eden Alternative is a powerful tool for improving quality of life and quality of care for those living in care homes. Also, homes that have adopted Eden as an organisational-wide philosophy have found that there is improved staff satisfaction and retention and significant decreases in use of medication.
