Sarah-Jane Carpenter is General Manager at Signature at Reigate Grange.

It is very hard to summarise your career and life achievements in a few words, but on reflection, I can see that I have been blessed to have had a career in Social Care spanning over 28 years. It’s been a varied and enjoyable career working across several client groups including Learning Disabilities, Acquired Brain Injuries and Older People Services.
My career began as an Auxiliary Nurse, and through hard work and determination, I have thrived in the industry and have been privileged to have held Senior Leadership positions in well-respected organisations. I have been fortunate in my life to have cared for and supported many wonderful people, all of whom have left pearls of wisdom with me and made me the person I am today.

Signature at Reigate Grange offers luxury assisted living and dementia support in a quiet location in Reigate.  Purpose-built to the highest standards, a range of apartments are available for long or short stays.  Residents enjoy a range of on-site facilities including a cinema, beauty salon, spa, cafe and landscaped gardens.

Dining is taken in our fine dining restaurant or informal bistro with a private dining room available for family occasions.  Our activities team arrange a daily calendar of activities, including entertainers, arts and crafts, cooking and trips out.

‘Milligan’s Café’ at Reigate Grange is the perfect location for residents and families to meet up and enjoy a drink or treat and relax. Choose from a selection of cakes, biscuits and other snacks or treat yourself to a drink from a wide range of coffee, tea and soft drinks.


Reigate Grange’s lounge areas are ideal for spending time in whatever your mood. With attractive and individual design themes and lovely furnishings, residents as well as friends and family can always find somewhere pleasant to relax and catch up.


The lobby at Reigate is extremely inviting with its sumptuous oak wood panelling. The main reception area sits by the impressive staircase with access to lounge and bar areas. At the top of the stairs there is a social space where residents can soak in all activity and ambience of the lobby and café area.


The garden at Reigate Grange is beautifully structured and is very popular with the residents whenever the sun is shining. Many activities such as flower arranging, garden games and gentle exercises takes place in the garden.


Our stunning spa and hair salon are very popular at Reigate Grange as our residents get to indulge themselves with all the amazing treatments such as; manicure and hand massage, foot massage and many more.

Activity Room

Our residents are always busy here at Reigate Grange as they take part in all the different events which are arranged by the activities team. The activities room is used for cooking, baking, knitting, flower arranging and many others. On many mornings you will find residents enjoying gentle exercise to start their day.


Our restaurant has a stylishly designed interior with lots of natural light. Our residents enjoy an exceptional dining experience as well as the finest service from the kitchen and service team, offering seasonal daily menus.


Breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a cup of tea, our bistro is always open for our residents. The room has a great energy due to its contemporary yet cosy interior. It’s a great place for residents, family and friends to have time together.

Private Dining

Whether you’re planning a tea party, birthday celebration or a simple get together, our restaurant staff and chefs always make sure that the guests receive the finest service. The interior is very stylish with its vibrant colours and its exquisite layout.


Our cinema shouts luxury from top to bottom with its high end surround system and snug armchairs.Our residents can enjoy watching anything from classics, comedy, romance, feature films to documentaries and talk shows along with the great sporting events!


Our library is often used by the residents as they get the chance to read from our wide selection of novels, biographies, classics, poetry and daily newspapers. We often receive new donations from visitors, staff and residents therefore there’s always something new to read.

Our studio apartments are open plan, featuring a bedroom area, living area and en-suite wetroom. Most of our studios offer a kitchenette and balcony or patio access is available in many cases. All studio apartments are light and airy and offer a private telephone line as well as mobility and safety features.

One-Bed Apartments

With a separate bedroom, our one-bedroom apartments offer a great deal of flexibility and are perfect for longer stays. In most of our apartments, a kitchenette is available in the living area and every one features an en-suite wetroom. Balcony or patio access is available in many apartments and all apartments offer a private telephone line as well as mobility and safety features.

One-Bed Deluxe Apartments

One-Bedroom deluxe apartments offer all of the features of our one-bedroom apartments, including a separate living room and bedroom, an en-suite wetroom and private telephone line. With a more spacious layout, deluxe apartments are perfect for couples or individuals who require more space for furniture and belongings. We offer dedicated dementia suites that have specialist features to support with the provision of exceptional care within a dignified and comforting environment for each resident. Using research from the University of Stirling, the UK’s leading dementia specialist researcher, Signature has designed its environments to be market-leading.

Respite care and convalescent care is short term care designed to help people recover from an operation or illness with the support of our superb care staff and facilities. Respite stays are a minimum of two weeks and can last up to a few months. Individual care plans are tailored to each resident’s requirements to help them recover as soon as possible.

Signature offers award-winning care in purpose-built, luxury surroundings, which provide the resident with the best chance of full recovery. Many of our respite residents enjoy their stay so much that they decide to remain with us after their recovery.

I have 27 years of nursing experience in a variety of specialist areas which have included Accident and Emergency, Primary Health, surgery, Cardiology and Outpatients. This has been in the NHS and private sector and I have even had the pleasure of running a clinic in Harley Street. I worked for a British Charity in Kosovo after the war and set up and run the only shelters for children in need of protection and worked with other charities such as UNICEF and Amnesty International. I have loved every moment of my nursing career but have always felt that I was searching for something. After all of this time, I feel that I have found it at Reigate Grange. I honestly believe that all of my experience, knowledge and skills have prepared me for my current role and this role has given me a passion for social care that I did not know existed. I have fire in my belly and a spring in my step and I am incredibly honoured to be part of such an amazing team and company.

Over the past 7 years, I have been lucky enough to work and perform within a variety of establishments; most notably for Warner Leisure Hotels and more recently Saga Cruises. Whilst on board with Saga Cruises, I was lucky enough to see many corners of the world and also took on more responsibility working alongside the Cruise Director to organise and manage the Production Team. However, last year I decided to leave the seas and come home to spend more time with friends and family and thought I would never find a job within the industry that I could do from home.
From the moment I stepped through the doors of Reigate Grange, I instantly fell in love with the home, team and concept of Signature. I'm thrilled to be starting a new journey here with the Signature team and be given the opportunity to provide entertainment and activities to our residents.

My career in the Social care sector started in 1992 after different roles in hotels and industrial catering, which I have catered and served for Royalty, Politicians, and Lords & Ladies, I’m a chef by trade (although it’s been a while since I have donned my chef’s hat and put my hands to developing tantalizing dishes) in the past 15 years I have been managing all hotel services within care locations, as Hospitality Manager at Reigate Grange, I’m responsible for all Food and Beverage service, I also ensure all the nutritional requirements of each individual are met, working closely with our chef and Restaurant Team to ensure that the dining experience is one of excellence and enjoyment.

Where I was a senior care assistant for 1 year and moved over to housekeeping manager. The Importance Of Meal Times

At Signature, we take great care to ensure that our food is prepared using the highest quality ingredients to ensure a well-balanced and nutritious diet for all our residents. Our food is made by professionally trained chefs and the delicious menus are inspired by Jane Devonshire, MasterChef 2016 winner.

We take pride in producing healthy, appetising food that provides good nutrition and hydration essential to wellness and the physical and mental well-being of our residents. All our meals are freshly prepared, packed full of flavour and include all the seasonal favourites. In addition to our dining times residents can enjoy a range of lighter meals and snacks throughout the day. We have well-stocked cafés serving speciality teas, freshly ground coffee, flavoured water, fruit juices, homemade cakes and light snacks.

Our café areas provide the perfect environment for family visits as well as socialising with other residents and guests. We make sure that we cater to individual dietary needs and recognise personal preferences and we do all we can to ensure that our residents enjoy their dining experience with Signature. Our homes are fully licensed and stock a great selection of wines, beers and spirits for residents, their guests and visitors to enjoy.

Across all Signature homes we offer choice and variety so that residents fully enjoy their dining experience. Whether you prefer a formal or informal environment, you can choose from a range of options including the formal restaurant areas that offer silver service, informal bistros for a more casual dining experience, café areas near the main entrances for coffee, light bites and snacks. Each home has a private dining room so that residents can enjoy special occasions with family and friends. We even offer alfresco dining on our pretty sun terraces for those long lazy summer days.

Our chefs offer fresh, seasonal menus that change daily for lunch and dinner. Each menu lists all allergies and we cater for all dietary requirements. Whether it be vegetarian, pescatarian or even vegan, at Signature we go above and beyond to make sure our residents’ tastes and needs are met, and they are well looked after. When a new resident joins a Signature home, we make every effort to learn what the resident likes and do all that we can to meet their tastes and preferences.

Every Signature home offers a stylish private dining facility for residents to enjoy with their family and friends. Celebrating happy times, such as birthdays or anniversaries is a lovely way to enjoy the facilities. By request, a special menu can be designed by our head chefs and all our homes are fully licensed offering a great wine list to add to the occasion.

Activities Are So Important

Every signature home has a dedicated activities team organised by an activities manager. With extensive weekly activity calendars, there is always plenty to choose from, whatever a resident’s mobility level. Activities inside our homes include ballroom dancing, board games, guest musicians and speakers and of course our ever-popular bridge tournaments. We also organise regular outings, from theatre and cinema trips to nature walks, shopping trips and church services. Many of our homes also have gardening areas and potting sheds, where green-fingered residents can tend their own plot
