Joanna Hartnup is Registered Manager at Pilgrims View.
The Home Manager, Joanna Hartnup, has been in post since 20 May 2024. Joanna has a background in healthcare for a variety of sectors for 16 plus years She has attained a Level 5 in Health & Social Care and has achieved a number of qualifications within her professional career (including MCA/DOL’s, Living with Dementia and Safeguarding Adults at Risk). At Pilgrims View we work to create a welcoming atmosphere in which residents enjoy activities, go on outings and make friends with other residents and staff. At the heart of our home is our Philosophy of Care, the Eden Alternative, where staff encourage social interaction, engagement and work towards the eradication of loneliness and boredom.
Our home provides 24-hour care and support for people living with dementia, where our team of qualified and attentive staff focus on the individual needs of the residents.
The home is well equipped, with bright bedrooms to support person centred care. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms and if they wish, to bring any small items of furniture from home. Pilgrims View residents can enjoy the lovely gardens situated all around the home, or join in with the daily programme of activities. The minibus also gives residents the opportunity for day trips out to one of the many local places of interest.
Pilgrims View is a safe, warm and friendly environment with support for daily tasks such as washing, cleaning and laundry. Pilgrims View provides a respite care service allowing a crucial break for carers, for just a few hours or for several weeks. This offers family carers the chance to go on holiday or simply have some well-earned time off.
Avante’s Philosophy of Care is The Eden Alternative, which is based on the core belief that ageing should be a continued stage of development and growth, rather than a period of decline. In a culture that typically views aging as a period of decline, the Eden Alternative philosophy asserts that no matter how old we are or what challenges we live with, life is about continuing to grow. The Eden Alternative seeks to cure loneliness, not with medication, but by providing residents with companionship and surrounding them with life. It seeks to cure helplessness by assistance with existing skills and interests; the opportunity to learn new ones and by encouraging residents to feel engaged and useful in their community

Activities and excercises are a daily part of life at Pilgrims View and are always enjoyed by the residents and staff. Staff base their interaction with each resident as an indiviual, knowing their likes and dislikes and particular interests and hobbies. Our Philosophy of Care is The Eden Alternative which is based on the core belief that ageing should be a continued stage of development and growth, rather than a period of decline. In a culture that typically views aging as a period of decline, the Eden Alternative philosophy asserts that no matter how old we are or what challenges we live with, life is about continuing to grow. The Eden Alternative seeks to cure loneliness, not with medication, but by providing residents with companionship and surrounding them with life Studies show that implementation of the Eden Alternative is a powerful tool for improving quality of life and quality of care for those living in care homes. Also, homes that have adopted Eden as an organisational-wide philosophy have found that there is improved staff satisfaction and retention and significant decreases in use of medication. |
