What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

At Athena Healthcare Group, we always put the health and safety of our residents and staff at the top of our list of priorities. As you will know, the coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic in recent times has brought substantial challenges. It is a worrying time for everyone. We are very pleased to announce that we have now installed non-contact visiting facilities.  We have repurposed rooms in our lodges and have installed clear perspex screens.  Starting from Wednesday, 2nd December, we will be allowing visits to our residents using those rooms.  We will be operating visiting seven days a week and on a timed appointment only basis.  We can allow up to two people to visit one of our residents at a time.  Regrettably, as matters stand, there can still be no contact and you will be separated from your loved one by a screen.  Unfortunately, visits will have to be fairly short, so that we can allow as many of our residents as possible to benefit from seeing their families.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Having worked in the care sector now for more than 15 years in various roles, the most fulfilling role has to be working with prospective residents, their family or their representatives. I find it most rewarding in helping to find the most suitable care home that will endeavour to meet the care needs of each new resident, along with show casing and promoting the many superb facilities each individual care home has to offer. 

My main duty is just by being there every step of the way, helping to support families to take away some of the stress of trying to find the right care home for their loved one.

In my spare time I love nothing more than walking my cockapoo, travelling to different counties within the UK and visiting different countries to sample the different restaurants, sightseeing and experiencing different cultures, but most importantly spending quality time with family and friends.

I am now privileged to be the Business Development Manager, helping our Lodge Service Advisors assists families and their loved ones through their care search; offering a point of contact should they wish to find out more about anything to do with the care we offer or the lodge itself.

This is an industry I love, meeting all the residents, their families and friends at this important stage of their journey makes me feel very honoured.

In my spare time I enjoy ballroom and Latin dancing, reading, the theatre, travelling and of course spending time with my own family and friends.

My name is David Graham and I am the Head Chef for Parklands Lodge care home in Southport. I began my catering career in Widnes college in the early 80’s and on completing my City & Guilds, I started working as a Commis Chef at the Marine hotel in Llandudno. I joined the British Army as a chef, in search of more excitement. Whilst working there I served tours in Northern Ireland, Germany, Bosnia, Canada and finally ending up in Dover, Kent.

After leaving the army I worked in Broome Park golf club, I then moved on to work for Saga in Folkstone. I was head hunted to take over as Executive Chef on the Eurotunnel where I stayed for 10 years (finally getting to work Mon-Fri after 20 years of catering!)

I took over as Head Chef at Discovery Park (A large pharmaceutical company) feeding in excess of 1500 people. I worked there for 5 years before relocating to Southport to semi retire by working in care. I have now worked at Parklands for just over a year and a half.

The Importance Of Meal Times

At Parklands Lodge, we understand the importance of a nutritious and well-balanced diet.

We take pride in our dining service and only use the finest seasonal produce available to make every meal the best it can be. Our menus are crafted with care and attention, tailored to residents' preferences and cultural or dietary requirements.

A wide range of refreshments is available on request 24 hours a day and residents are welcome to invite friends and family to meals at the Lodge - more information is available from the Lodge reception.

Activities Are So Important

We are dedicated to making our residents' home a happy, vibrant and fun place to live!

Our Activities & Wellbeing team provide residents with a varied and engaging programme that inspires communication, social interaction, movement, reminiscence and more.

From musical sing-alongs, daily exercise, arts & crafts, knit & natter and intergenerational sessions with our twinned nursery, there's always something to look forward to.

We also offer smaller excursions to the parks, shops or local markets which add a healthy amount of variety to residents’ day-to-day life.

Residents who have enjoyed hobbies or interests within their local community, such as sports or social clubs, are encouraged to continue being involved and where possible supported in doing so.
