Meet The Manager

Glendeen Quow is Home Manager at Parkfield House Nursing Home.

Glendeen Quow

Parkfield House Nursing Home provides first-class nursing, respite and dementia care in a quiet residential area of Hillingdon in West London.

This elegant 40-room home has been carefully refurbished and, with all its external grandeur and original features, converted into a delightful and comfortable home from home. Its gated grounds provide security and reassurance to all our residents and their relatives.

The cosy and well-equipped bedrooms are spread over three floors. Most are single but, unusually, there are also a few double rooms - ideal for couples who both need to move into care and want to stay together.

Nursing and care staff are available 24/7 on each floor, supported by dedicated teams of kitchen, activities, facilities and housekeeping staff.

The spacious lounge and dining areas are also comfortably furnished and equipped with TVs, games and books. There are seating areas around the building, enabling residents to choose to join in the social atmosphere or find a favourite spot for some quiet time.

There are even hens in the garden for you to help look after and enjoy some therapeutic time and cuddles! Under certain circumstances we may accept residents with pets but please check with the manager when you visit. We also welcome pets to visit but, again, do check with the manager first, as we have to be careful with the hens.

Residents' views are important to us, and we take these into account in the day-to-day running of the home.

In the summer our residents enjoy their lunch outside in the sunshine or relax under the shade of our lovely traditional pergola. You can even help to look after our hens - if you can’t get out into the garden, we can bring the hens to visit you in your room!

The on-site hairdressing salon is very popular with all those in search of some therapeutic 'me time'! This, along with physiotherapy, chiropody and dentistry, are all available services with such costs met by residents.

Activities Are So Important

We have an active social life in our home with plenty of opportunities to make new friends and participate in a variety of interesting activities and day trips.

This is important because an active life can help to keep you more alert, mobile and happier, with better health and wellbeing overall.

Our activities co-ordinators create a monthly programme of activities ranging from entertainments, such as visiting singers and film matinees, to painting and crafts, baking, gardening, quizzes and yoga. If your preferred hobby isn’t on the list, we can help you to continue with it. Even if you find moving about difficult, it is still important to get as much exercise as possible, so we also organise gentle exercise sessions, to help keep you mobile.

Family and friends are welcome to join in with activities, and we also organise special events (like our annual summer fête, for example) to which we invite your family, friends, local community groups and even the local Mayor. If you like to get out and about, we can arrange for someone to go shopping with you and the activities team also arrange group trips and meals out.

Or it might be that you simply want to read, watch TV or listen to the radio in the quiet of your own room. Or someone to sit with you and read the paper, talk about things that are important to you, or help you keep in touch with your loved ones via post, email or Skype. The choice is yours.

Many of our residents love animals and have enjoyed having pets in the past, so we have regular visits from friendly dogs, and some of our residents’ visitors are able to bring their own dogs with them. Residents also enjoy caring for and cuddling the Parkfield Hens, which are part of the Henpower/Equal Arts project to combat loneliness and isolation in older people. If you're unable to go and see the hens in the garden, we can bring them to your room!
