Meet The Manager

Ian Chandler is Care Home Manager at Meadow View Residential Care Home.

Meadow View is a stunning new care home located in a quiet residential area of the village of Hersden, Kent.

Our care home is a 15-minute drive from the cathedral city of Canterbury and the beachside town of Herne Bay, making it the perfect place to enjoy both city attractions and the charm of the seaside.

Our dedicated team provides a range of care and support for our residents, including residential care, dementia care and respite care.

Our care home has been designed with the usual luxuries and comforts you’d expect such as beautifully decorated lounges, light and airy dining rooms and spacious bedrooms with wet room en-suites, which provide a warm place for our residents to rest and relax.

Meadow View also features a stunning top-floor sun terrace and attractive sensory gardens, which are lovely areas to sit and enjoy the warmer weather.

However it’s the small personal touches and our friendly team, who care for our residents as if they were members of their own family, which make Meadow View a true home from home.

We welcome visits from family and friends and have an open door policy, so whether loved ones like to pop in for a coffee or take part in an activity, we encourage them to become part of the community within our home.

We hold regular meetings for residents and relatives, enabling our residents and their loved ones to be directly involved in everyday life at Meadow View.

We have several beautiful lounge areas for residents to use as they wish, whether taking part in activities, catching up with friends and family or simply reading a good book.

Our dining rooms, which overlook the gardens, provide a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy delicious home-cooked meals in the company of others.

The sensory gardens are landscaped with raised flower beds for residents who like to do a spot of light gardening. They are surrounded by pathways which are specially designed to be suitable for wheelchairs.

Positioned on the top-floor, our stunning sun terrace is the perfect setting for residents to sit back and watch the world go by.

Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.

To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.

Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Our catering team prides themselves on preparing nutritious, seasonal home-cooked meals, along with mouth-watering home-baked cakes for afternoon tea.

Residents help us to shape the menus and our catering team spends time with them to get feedback on the dishes and their likes and dislikes. They are also able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements.

Breakfast includes a wide variety of choice from cereals and toast to a traditional cooked breakfast.

Lunch and dinnertimes see a selection of sandwiches, home-made soups, salads, jacket potatoes and hot meals such as a Sunday roast with all the trimmings and favourites including fish and chips, cottage pie and a hearty casserole.

There is also an array of snacks and refreshments available throughout the day for residents and their loved ones if they get a bit peckish.

Activities Are So Important

We believe it is important that our residents spend their time as they choose, so have a dedicated activities person to support them to take part in interesting activities, rekindle old past times and try new things.

We have a hairdressing salon and our residents also enjoy being pampered with manicures and hand massages.

Regular activities on offer include everything from baking, light exercise, arts and crafts, knit and natter sessions, live music entertainment, as well as themed community events.

Lyons Court is also starting its own choir. Plans are being finalised so watch this space! Youngsters from the local nursery in Chelmsford are regular visitors to the home and often treat us to musical performances, so it will be nice to return the favour and give them a sneak preview of our brand new choir!

Another fantastic activity going on at Lyons Court is a homework club we run to support our local college students. The college identifies skills the youngsters need additional support with and we ‘buddy’ them up with our residents who have those skill sets – for example if a resident speaks French, or perhaps worked as a writer and so is skilled in literacy and grammar. This is a wonderful opportunity not just for the students but for our residents, who are able to share their valuable knowledge with the younger generation, which gives them a real sense of pride.
