Joanne Cookson is Registered Manager at Lighthouse Lodge.

With nearly 20 years’ experience within the care sector, I have worked in many areas of the industry from working with the elderly to spinal injuries and pediatrics with complex needs; I have enjoyed every aspect of my job.

My passion lies in providing person-centred care to residents living with dementia. All my residents are extended family and my team of dedicated and like-minded staff who provide the first-class care they deserve.

Caring for others and seeing the smiles on residents’ faces is what makes my job worthwhile. Outside of work, I enjoy taking my dogs for a walk, keeping fit and spending time with my family.

At Athena Healthcare Group, we always put the health and safety of our residents and staff at the top of our list of priorities. As you will know, the coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic in recent times has brought substantial challenges. It is a worrying time for everyone. In order to seek to ensure the safety and protection of our residents, their well-being, and staff, we have put in place robust and stringent measures in response to the outbreak.

We are very pleased to announce that we have now installed non-contact visiting facilities.  We have repurposed rooms in our lodges and have installed clear perspex screens.  Starting from Wednesday, 2nd December, we will be allowing visits to our residents using those rooms.  We will be operating visiting seven days a week and on a timed appointment only basis.  We can allow up to two people to visit one of our residents at a time.  Regrettably, as matters stand, there can still be no contact and you will be separated from your loved one by a screen.  Unfortunately, visits will have to be fairly short, so that we can allow as many of our residents as possible to benefit from seeing their families.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

All of our Lodges offer spacious, well-equipped, modern bedrooms. Complete with quality furnishings, tasteful decor and practical accessible facilities - enabling residents to maintain their independence and enjoy their own personal space.

Whilst every room is available fully fitted with high quality furnishings, we encourage residents to make the room their own, inviting them to bring any meaningful furniture or keepsakes to decorate their new home.

In addition to the furnishings available, each room has:

A comfortable, adjustable profile bed

A flat screen TV

A wireless internet connection

An ensuite wetroom

Bedrooms are also equipped with a wireless call system so that residents can alert a member of staff at any time of the day or night. Residents can also arrange for a personal phoneline to be installed should they wish.

There is also an assisted bath available on every floor for residents who require additional support, or just want a good soak.

I am the Lodge Service Adviser for Athena Healthcare Group at Marine View Lodge and Lighthouse Lodge, Wirral. I provide families with information required when considering a care home for their relative. The first point of contact and advise enquirers about the different types of care we provide, our Lodge features and the process involved for a relative moving into our Care Homes.

Enjoy showing families around the Lodges and answering any questions they may have, I assist them right up to admission of their relative and am always on hand thereafter. I love meeting families, prospective residents and helping to make the move into our Care Homes the best experience it can be.

My role also involves building relationships in the community working with organisations, businesses, charities etc and providing information in relation to the care provided at Athena Healthcare.

I enjoy spending time with my family, and I love dogs. I enjoy walking my dog, Buddy.

We are dedicated to making our residents' home a happy, vibrant and fun place to live!

Our Activities & Wellbeing team provide residents with a varied and engaging programme that inspires communication, social interaction, movement, reminiscence and more.

From musical sing-alongs, daily exercise, arts & crafts, knit & natter and intergenerational sessions with our twinned nursery; there's always something to look forward to.

We also offer smaller excursions to the parks, shops or local markets which add a healthy amount of variety to residents’ day-to-day life.

Residents who have enjoyed hobbies or interests within their local community, such as sports or social clubs, are encouraged to continue being involved and where possible supported in doing so.
