Meet The Manager

Gladys Danquah is Home Manager at Heathlands Care Home.

Gladys joined Heathlands Care Home as home manager in March 2024. After qualifying as a registered nurse over 20 years ago, Gladys worked in the cardiac-thoracic department of several NHS and private hospitals in London. She then moved over to social care, working as head of nursing care for a large faith-based provider where she was later promoted to registered manager. She spent the next 15 years managing homes across the London and Essex areas for several care home groups, and held responsibility for five homes as a regional support manager before coming to Heathlands.

Heathlands Care Home is a modern, purpose-built nursing home located in a peaceful residential area of Chingford. Nestled within its own private, landscaped gardens, the home has been thoughtfully designed to combine advanced facilities with a warm, relaxed, and homely atmosphere.

Heathlands provides high-quality nursing, short-term, and palliative care, as well as secure and compassionate support for residents living with dementia. Each floor has its own dedicated care team, ensuring consistent, personalised attention and a familiar, reassuring environment for residents.

Bedrooms are comfortable and well-furnished, while the communal areas offer inviting spaces for relaxation and socialising. The home’s landscaped gardens provide a tranquil outdoor retreat for residents and their visitors to enjoy fresh air and nature throughout the year.

A dedicated wellbeing team offers a varied programme of daily activities, including creative workshops, music sessions, gentle exercise, and social events designed to support residents’ physical, emotional, and cognitive wellbeing. Nutritious, home-cooked meals are freshly prepared each day, with menus tailored to individual tastes and dietary needs.

Activities Are So Important

We have an active social life in our home with plenty of opportunities to make new friends and participate in a variety of interesting activities and day trips.

This is important because an active life can help to keep you more alert, mobile and happier, with better health and wellbeing overall.

Our activities co-ordinators create a monthly programme of activities - from entertainments, such as visiting singers and film matinees, to painting and crafts, baking, gardening, quizzes and yoga. If your preferred hobby isn’t on the list, we can help you to continue with it. Even if you find moving about difficult, it is still important to get as much exercise as possible, so we also organise gentle exercise sessions, to help keep you mobile.

Family and friends are welcome to join in with activities, and we also organise special events (like our annual summer fête, for example) to which we invite your family, friends and local community groups. If you like to get out and about, we can arrange for someone to go shopping with you and the activities team also arranges group trips and meals out.

Or it might be that you simply want to read, watch TV or listen to the radio in the quiet of your own room. Or someone to sit with you and read the paper, talk about things that are important to you, or help you keep in touch with your loved ones via post, email or Skype.
