Meet The Manager

Anne Trigg is Home Manager at Hampton Care Limited.

Anne brings a wealth of valuable and varied experience to the role of Home Manager. Not only is she a qualified chef, baker and butcher – courtesy of the Women’s Royal Air Force – but she is also a mental health trainer, university lecturer and psychiatric nurse who spent 15 years working with patients on a secure unit. Since moving over to elderly care, Anne has held senior management posts within such well-known companies as Caring Homes, Friends of the Elderly and Royal British Legion, where she oversaw several CQC outstanding ratings.

Anne is determined to reinforce Hampton’s commitment to person-centred care, ensuring that residents are supported to live full and active lives, as far as possible. She’s also got a bee in her bonnet about how, as a nation, we see older people.

“They are people with wisdom, not children,” she says. “Our role is to protect them, not take away their choice.”

Hampton Care Home is in the attractive London suburb of Hampton, surrounded by lovely gardens. The large and elegant purpose-built home was designed with generous rooms and wide corridors to give a spacious and airy feel, ensuring your comfort and ease of movement around the home.

Here at Hampton, we provide a homely, safe environment where every resident can be confident that their dignity and privacy will be respected, and their emotional, physical and spiritual needs met with kindness and compassion.

Hampton isn’t just a place where you receive top-quality care. Our wellbeing managers organise a varied programme of creative, musical or fitness activities and days out. And, for therapeutic ‘me time’, a dedicated hair salon provides on-site hair and beauty facilities. Our menus are varied and nutritious and we strive to create a comfortable home-from-home environment with a strong family feel.

Residents' views are important to us, and we take these into account in the day-to-day running of the home.

The home manager is supported 24/7 by a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, carers, domestic, catering and admin staff, who all receive regular in-house training from our training manager.

We have good staff ratios to ensure the highest level of care is given to our residents from a professional team. Many of our carers are also qualified to, or working towards, NVQ or Diploma Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care. If staff wish to pursue more advanced qualifications in care and leadership, we offer them every support.

The staff who care for residents with dementia have more specialist training and an in-depth understanding of how dementia affects health and behaviour. Dementia affects everyone differently, so our team provides individual and person-centred care. We have found that our innovative approach to caring for those experiencing dementia has been effective in lessening the anxiety that's often associated with it. This, together with safe and compassionate care, helps our residents to experience greater quality of life.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Maintaining an adequate level of nutrition and hydration is vitally important for the elderly. Equally, enjoying healthy, appetising and visually appealing food is a big part of feeling happy and content.

All meals are home-cooked in our kitchens from fresh ingredients by our chefs and their catering team. Menus menus change daily and there's plenty of variety.

Lunch is usually the main meal of the day and you will be given the menu in advance. If none of the day’s choices appeal you can request something else. Your evening meal is usually something lighter but, again, you will have three choices such as sandwiches, soup, or a hot meal. By special request, you can save your main meal for the evening rather than lunch.

Hot and cold drinks, fruit juices and smoothies are available during the day whenever you feel like them, and you will usually find home-made cakes on offer, too.

We are very happy to cater for special dietary requirements. If you need a puréed diet, for example, or have food allergies or intolerances, these will be noted in your personal care plan and shared with our catering and care teams who will ensure that your diet matches your requirements.

Our catering teams are just as much part of the family as you are, so they will enjoy getting to know you and your food likes and dislikes.

We encourage residents who can to eat in the dining room with others. Sharing a meal together is an important part of family life. But if you prefer, you can have any meals brought to you in your room. If you like breakfast in bed or a late night snack, it is up to you.

Activities Are So Important

We have an active social life in our home with plenty of opportunities to make new friends and participate in a variety of interesting activities and day trips.

This is important because an active life can help to keep you more alert, mobile and happier, with better health and wellbeing overall.

Our activities co-ordinators create a monthly programme of activities - from entertainments, such as visiting singers and film matinees, to painting and crafts, baking, gardening, quizzes and yoga. If your preferred hobby isn’t on the list, we can help you to continue with it. Even if you find moving about difficult, it is still important to get as much exercise as possible, so we also organise gentle exercise sessions, to help keep you mobile.

Family and friends are welcome to join in with activities, and we also organise special events (like our annual summer fête, for example) to which we invite your family, friends and local community groups. If you like to get out and about, we can arrange for someone to go shopping with you and the activities team also arranges group trips and meals out.

Or it might be that you simply want to read, watch TV or listen to the radio in the quiet of your own room. Or someone to sit with you and read the paper, talk about things that are important to you, or help you keep in touch with your loved ones via post, email or Skype.
