Meet The Manager

Lynda Hamilton-Shaw is General Manager at Awel-Y-Mor Care Centre.

I started at Awel-Y-Mor in January 2013 and became General Manager in October 2015. I am responsible for the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring all staff provide excellent care to residents, and promoting a happy and friendly atmosphere in which family and friends can feel welcome and know their loved one is cared for and supported.

Awel-Y-Mor Care Centre is situated in Swansea, Wales. We welcome young, physically disabled adults with complex disabilities following traumatic or acquired brain injury, spinal injury or degenerative disease. We also provide care for up to three clients with learning disabilities, 15 elderly frail clients and we have the facilities to care for bariatric clients.

We have strong links with the local GP service and clinical specialists whilst our clients are supported by a full time experienced physiotherapist based at Awel–Y-Mor.

Alison returned to Awel-Y-Mor in September 2016.  She has vast experience in caring for people following brain injuries, and with complex needs. She is approachable and ensures that care is delivered to a high standard.

Activities Coordinators

Awel-Y-Mor's activities team consists of three Activities Coordinators, each having a specialist unique role within the group, including work in the multi-sensory concept, as well as organising days out, trips to sporting events and pop concerts, and arranging themed days. Jo has been with us for over ten years, beginning her Barchester career as a Carer; and Sarah has been with us for over five years now and also started out as a Carer; and Julie joined us in 2018.

Paul John has been working at Awel-Y-Mor since 2003 and he has been Head Chef here since September 2017. He leads a team who always go above and beyond to ensure that residents get choice and the food is always of a high standard.

David has worked for the home for over 25 years, mainly as the Head Chef – and is now the Head of Maintenance.

It is his job to ensure that equipment in the home is maintained to a high standard and kept in full working order.

I am currently a Therapy Assistant, providing additional support to our residents.  I have been with Awel Y Mor for 13 years and started my career as a carer.

I provide physiotherapy treatment for residents at Awel-Y-Mor with the help of our therapy assistant, Marlene. We work with residents to help them achieve their goals and reach their full potential. I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2012 and gained my master's in 2017. I have worked previously in the NHS.

I am a qualified Laughter Yoga Therapist and also assist with Music Therapy within the home.  My role is lots of fun and it is truly rewarding to see our residents' quality of life improved through the services I provide.

Operational Trainer

Richard Webster has worked as a Carer, he's been a part of the activities team, a Home Trainer, a member of the physiotherapy team and is now an Operational Trainer. He is approachable, well-liked and respected by residents and colleagues, and is able to inspire and bring out the best in people.

It is essential that the people we support have access to healthy food at all times, so our fantastic catering team are always on hand to prepare tasty and nutritious cuisine. Our food is always cooked to highest standard and with residents’ preferences always in mind. The importance of a balanced diet is never forgotten here, so we offer a varied menu that has something for everyone to enjoy.
