Jessica is Home Manager at Blaenos House Nursing Home.
I am a qualified nurse and have been nursing for 14 years. I have an extensive clinical background of both NHS and Social care settings. I have been a care home manager for 6 years and am passionate and dedicated to my role. I have two children and enjoy spending my spare time exploring both locally and further afield, cooking and reading.
Within walking distance of the pretty historic market town of Llandovery, and on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Blaenos House Nursing Home is one of the only homes in West Wales caring for those living with dementia.
The house is a former convent, and originally the Home of the Order of Carmelite Nuns. Today, you’ll find nods to the nuns’ traditions and history throughout the extensive gardens. The home has impressive views across the Welsh countryside, and is close to local amenities, railway station and attractions in the surrounding area such as the Norman Llandovery Castle, Llandovery Museum & Visitor Gateway and the spectacular circular walk of Gwenffrwd-Dinas Nature Reserve
Blaenos House Nursing Home cares for a maximum of 38 residents living with dementia and/or requiring nursing care on a short or long-term basis. Most of our team members read and speak Welsh as their first language.

To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. I’m very passionate about nursing and always strive to provide exceptional standards of care in the safest of environments. ![]() IvyActivities Co-ordinatorThe best part of my role is seeing the positive impact I have on residents’ daily lives and seeing them smile and enjoying themselves gives me great job satisfaction. I provide different activities every day for the residents to get involved with and can often be heard leading the communal singing heartily accompanied by the residents who thoroughly enjoy reminiscing and singing the songs of yesteryear. ![]() DaiMaintenance ManagerI have worked at Blaenos House for the past for 14 years and have the privilege of looking after this beautiful home and extensive gardens. I get tremendous pleasure from making the home as welcoming and comfortable as possible for the residents and can’t wait for the newly created dementia walkway to bloom with all the seasonal flowers that have been planted. ![]() DawnHead ChefI came to Blaenos House in 2018 as a kitchen assistant/ cook and was quickly promoted to Chef. The provision of good nutrition is so important when catering for residents living with dementia and I apply all of my skills and knowledge to provide appetising daily menus which allow residents to choose what they prefer whilst still ensuring their daily nutritional requirements are being met. According to residents and colleagues, my speciality is in the baking department, and I’m told my freshly baked cakes are legendry! |
