Safety Measures
Hand hygiene is crucial in stopping the spread of the virus, and each of our homes has had a hand washing station installed at the entrance, for everyone to use as they arrive at the home.

In addition to our normal cleaning regimes, we have introduced extra cleaning schedules for our housekeeping teams, using products that are effective against coronavirus.

Visiting Opportunities
To keep residents, staff and visitors safe, we encourage all visitors to take a lateral flow test before each visit, and to strictly follow the guidance on hand washing and wearing a mask whilst in the home. Whilst mask wearing is no longer necessary when visiting the resident in their room you should continue to wear a face covering when walking through the home or visiting in communal areas.

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Fidra House, our North Berwick nursing home, is especially designed with the needs of older people in mind. The interior is spacious, lending a real feel of airiness to the building, this in combination with beautiful landscaped gardens and full accessibility makes Fidra House the ideal location for older people who value a high-quality standard of living. 

Set across 3 floors, our 60 single bedrooms have ensuite showers, internet access, telephone, nurse call system and wall mounted private TVs. The rooms enable our residents to maintain their independence in their own exclusive living space with all the assistance they require nearby.

Rooms can be personalised by the resident with their choice of wall colours and soft furnishings, and we encourage personal mementos and furniture, if space allows. As long as the layout gives us space to nurse in, we’ll do our best to make rooms as homely and familiar as possible.

Each bedroom has an ensuite shower room. There is a nurse call, TV (including Sky) and a telephone and Internet point in every bedroom, with WiFi available throughout the home.

As a nursing home, Fidra House has a very dedicated team and a high level of qualified staff. Our nurses are on duty 24 hours a day and this provides peace of mind for residents and their families. Together with our committed care and support staff, there is a professional and compassionate team with the ability to bring joy and fulfilment every day.

At Fidra House, the team comprises of managerial and administrative staff as well as domestic, kitchen and ancillary staff. Trisha and other senior staff, lead a strong professional unit where staff get to know the name of every resident and treat our residents with compassion, affection and above all, respect.

We place a strong emphasis on activities at Fidra House and encourage residents to spend as much time as they want enjoying all the activities on offer. We currently devote twice as many hours to activities as officially recommended by the care inspectorate in order to keep our residents entertained and engaged.

We’re lucky enough to be based in beautiful North Berwick, giving us easy access to explore the rest of East Lothian in our mini buses. Our recent trips have included bus trips to visit the other pretty towns, villages and beachlines dotted along the coastline.

Other community-based activities we run on a regular basis include going to church services, coffee mornings, tea dances and shopping trips.

Some residents benefit from visiting pets and they are also welcome as long as they are kept under control and do not disturb other residents.
