Meet The Manager

Jennifer Howes is Care Home Manager at Cromwell House.

Jennifer began her career at MHA Cromwell House in 2003 as a care assistant, drawn in by the home’s warm atmosphere. Her dedication saw her progress to senior carer, assistant manager, and eventually home manager in 2008,a journey she hadn’t expected but embraced with commitment and compassion. Recently celebrating 22 years of service, Jennifer is admired for her hands-on leadership and deep understanding of front-line care. She remains closely involved in daily operations, fostering strong relationships with staff and residents. Jennifer believes that while care work is demanding, it is deeply rewarding. Reflecting on the challenges of the pandemic, she credits MHA’s support and the team’s resilience in shaping a meaningful career.

Located in a peaceful residential area of Norwich, just a short distance from the city center, MHA Cromwell House is a care home offering specialist support for up to 38 residents. Built in 1969 and expanded over the years, the home blends modern amenities with a touch of local history, creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for all who live there.

The beautifully landscaped gardens play a central role in life at Cromwell House, providing residents with a tranquil space to enjoy nature. Enclosed and well-maintained, the outdoor areas are perfect for relaxation, with seating spots surrounded by colorful flowerbeds and wildlife like foxes and squirrels adding charm. The summer house is a popular gathering place for everything from family tea breaks to garden parties, while the conservatory offers stunning views of the garden, making it an ideal spot for moments of peace, even in cooler weather.

Cromwell House offers a variety of amenities, including cozy en-suite bedrooms, inviting communal lounges, and even a chapel for quiet reflection. Residents can enjoy pampering at the hair salon or socialize over tea in the conservatory. With a full calendar of activities, ranging from competitive carpet bowling to lively singalongs, there’s always something to look forward to. Day trips to attractions like Yarmouth Sea Life Centre or Norfolk Broads provide exciting opportunities for exploration, while intergenerational activities and quiet moments in the chapel offer a perfect balance of vibrancy and tranquility.

Description

We encourage our residents to furnish their rooms as they wish. This could be as simple as hanging a couple of their favourite pictures on the wall, but they’re also welcome to bring their comfy chair or anything that makes them feel at home. The most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable, happy and settled. We have a mix of room types, including some with a full en suite wet room and others with an en suite toilet and sink. If your loved one enjoys catching up with the latest news, sport, chat shows or soaps, we can provide a TV in their room on request, and there’s WiFi throughout the home.

We have a call system that can be operated by a hand control or a pendant depending on personal preference. All floors are secured by keypad coding to ensure that residents are safe and secure at all times.

Activities Are So Important

The home benefits from an enthusiastic Activities Co-ordinator five days a week who is responsible for planning trips out in the home's minibus, in-house entertainment, hairdressing room, Cognitive Stimulation therapy, pet therapy, art therapy and regular exercise/activities. Cromwell House also boasts its very own music therapist.

Funded entirely by charitable donations, these award-winning weekly sessions are led by our highly-trained therapists and can have an incredibly powerful and positive impact on a person’s well-being. At Cromwell House, our music therapists interact with residents through singalongs, playing simple percussion instruments and responding to musical cues in either a one-to-one or group setting. These sessions often prove to be truly life-enhancing, helping people to unlock special memories and express their feelings and emotions.

The Activity Coordinator(s) will plan regular activities, events and trips. These will vary by week and will cater to differing needs and abilities as far as possible. Regular activities (no extra cost) include:

• Animal visits

• Armchair exercises

• Arts and crafts
