Meet The Manager

Debbie Spokes is The Registered Manager at Country Lodge Nursing Home.

Hello, I am Debbie Spokes, the Registered Manager here at Country Lodge since 2004. I have been a nurse for 35+ years, working in the NHS, before moving to the private sector. Delivering exemplary care and creating a 'home from home' environment has always remained my highest priority. I am very proud of our wonderful team, built over many years and have never stopped enjoying making a difference to peoples lives.

I do hope you will come and see what we have to offer here. You will receive a warm welcome!

Debbie Spokes

Country Lodge Nursing Home is a converted and extended Sussex Barn in the quaint village of High Salvington, on the edge of Worthing. We offer permanent and respite nursing care to those over the age of 65 years.

The quality of care provided to residents combined with beautiful views over the South Downs National Park provides a wonderful home. The Registered Manager is Debbie Spokes who has over 15 years experience in Care and Management and is a registered RN herself.

We can think of many reasons to chose Country Lodge for your loved one, but our relatives and residents regularly list these five in their feedback: Our care, our food, our size and our activities and parties.

We are located in the South Downs National Park area, protected for it’s outstanding beauty and our garden is the perfect threshold from which to view it – carefully curated year round by a team of expert gardeners.

Our food is designed around Residents’ requests and made from scratch with fresh, locally sourced produce.

Our small size means we have a relatively small staff team creating a homely, community feel.

Our weekly activities and parties are high points for all our Residents who choose to participate. Do follow us on facebook to get a flavour of what we provide: https://www.facebook.com/Count...

Description

We take great care at Country Lodge to recruit staff who are passionate about care of the elderly. Together our Management and Staff Team have a huge range of qualifications and experience which we bring together to enhance the experience of Country Lodge.

Our Manager, Deborah Spokes, has been in position for 15 years and has consistently achieved a CQC rating of Good coupled with the highest Consumer Rating for a Nursing Home in the Worthing area. We aim to have virtually no agency staff and pride ourselves on the dependability of staff which, in a small home such as ours, ensures Residents always recognize their Carers and build great friendships with them.

Our Head Chef was recruited from a large Care Home Chain for his expertise, passion for home cookery with locally sourced ingredients and he loves to make every meal a celebration. Every Resident's birthday is celebrated with a home made cake and all seasonal celebrations are prepared according to a carefully thought out creative menu.

Our activities Ambassador was recruited for her passion for providing engaging and uplifting activities for the elderly as well as her passion to maximise and promote independence and exercise as much as possible from the comfort of the Resident's lounge chair.

We have always wanted to make people feel ‘at home’, comfortable and safe so entering care in 2019 seemed a natural move for us. Debs’ parents had run wonderful care homes in the past showing that it is possible to make a care home a lovely place to be. Will was an NHS doctor before leaving to advise healthcare companies.

We believe the creation of peaceful, resident-centred havens of care like Country Lodge has huge value to residents and their families.

Often a complicated chapter in residents lives, it is still a chapter to be lived as fully as possible. Struck by the homely feel at Country Lodge on our first visit, together with the attention paid to the food and the weekly activities, we knew it would be a place we would love to work in and recommend to family and friends.

Debs is at Country Lodge several times a week. Will is involved in the oversight, but continues to work advising the NHS and other healthcare organisations.
