Meet The Manager

Karen Byres is The Home Manager at Claremont Court Care Home.

Karen has worked in the healthcare arena for over 30 years, having been inspired as a child by her mother who ran a nursing home in Southampton. Karen started her career as a carer and in the intervening years, has gained a wealth of experience working with and then managing teams caring for older people with dementia. Since 2014, Karen has been the Registered Home Manager of Claremont Court in Guildford.

Karen’s passion is to create a home-from-home for all her residents within a warm and friendly environment. She has developed an exceptionally dedicated team that has been cherry-picked to form the stable family unit at the heart of Claremont Court’s dementia care.

Karen is rightly proud of having led the team to win many prestigious national and regional Dementia Care awards.

Karen Byres

When it comes to delivering exceptional dementia care with love and a deep sense of compassion, the amazing people who form our Claremont Court Care Home team in Guildford are everything.

At Claremont Court Care Home, we provide specialist dementia care with love and compassion. We have won many awards over the years, winning Specialist Care at the national Care Home Awards 2025 and a High Commendation at the Dementia Care Awards 2025. We are platinum accredited with the Gold Standards Framework for end-of-life care, and are proud to be in the UK’s Top 20 Mid-sized Care Group 2026, as rated by carehome.co.uk, and most recently finalists at the National Dementia Care Awards 2026 and the Palliative Care Awards 2026.

Our skilled and expert team combines their experience, specialist dementia training, and collective dedication to truly understanding each person, ensuring our residents, no matter the complexity of their dementia, receive the very best care and support.

Our home provides residential and nursing dementia care, having been designed to meet the needs of those living with complex dementia. It features wide corridors, clear signage to aid wayfinding, and memory boxes for residents to personalise. It also features elegant en-suite bedrooms, spacious lounges and dining rooms, a hair salon, and a large, tranquil sensory garden.

There is a varied activities and events calendar tailored specifically to residents' needs, including arts and crafts sessions, reminiscence activities, live music performances, and dementia-aid computer games and puzzles. Soothing lighting, sound therapy, fragrant aromatherapy, and comforting hand massages also allow residents to experience multi-sensory relaxation in small groups or in the comfort of their own bedrooms during Namaste Care sessions.

Regular minibus outings to local places of interest are carefully planned, ensuring our residents’ safety and enjoyment on each excursion. Well-established community links also allow us to grant residents’ wishes, big and small, with our Make-A-Wish initiative.

All our team members receive comprehensive dementia training, professional development, and ongoing expert guidance to ensure we are well-equipped to support residents in having the best possible quality of life.
