Meet The Manager

Mercy Mautsi is Home Manager at Avon Court.

Mercy has been in care for over 22 years, having been employed for almost every role in a care home. Mercy brings a lot of hands-on experience to her role as Home Manager of Avon Court, the dementia care household in Avonbourne Care Centre. Having started out as a carer, Mercy worked her way up to become a care leader and later becoming Head of Care at Willowcroft in Salisbury. During her time as Head of Care; Mercy worked alongside our other Home Manager Sharon Payne, helping shape Willowcroft into the home it is now. Mercy was then awarded her own home in Mere, where she managed Fives Court for a number of years. Wanting to shape a Dementia home, Mercy was then given the opportunity to be the Home Manager of Avonbourne's dementia side and we were delighted to welcome Mercy in late 2018.

Mercy's goal is to make Avonbourne an example of how to care for those living with Dementia.

Mercy Mautsi

Avonbourne Care Centre offers two households that allow our residents to thrive in a homely environment. Avon Court is for those who need specialist dementia care, and Bourne House looks after those who need a little extra help to maintain their independence.

Located in the historic area around Salisbury, Avonbourne Care Centre offers an elegant home environment with compassionate, individualised care in relaxing, friendly and homely households. The area around the home is full of history and is just a short drive to into Salisbury and to Stonehenge.

We try to learn as much as possible about each person who lives with us, so that we can provide them with care and support tailored to their individual needs and preferences. Our residents have regular meetings with the management team to discuss new ideas for menus and resident activities.

The Importance Of Meal Times

The talented chef and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals on site daily from our own kitchens. We source quality produce for our excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All-day dining is available for lighter meals and snacks and all dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and cater for individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join us. The menus change daily, and the kettle is always on. Our chef bakes every day so there is always a fresh cake to enjoy.

Residents are also encouraged to help prepare their own food and to make snacks whenever they choose.

Activities Are So Important

Activities:

Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we at OSJCT feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.

Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us. Each home has a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.

A daily activity schedule for a home may include:

  • Trips to garden Centres, café’s, pubs, sporting events, National Trust parks, wildlife parks, aquariums and museums.
  • Performances from entertainers
  • Coffee mornings
  • Art and Craft clubs
  • Quiz Nights

And that’s not all:
