Meet The Manager

Shann Thomas is Home Director at Brockington House Care Community.

I originally qualified as both RMN and RGN and went on to join the Private Sector in 1992. I then moved to live in Africa for 17 years and ran a successful business before returning to the UK in 2014 where I joined a leading care home provider as a Home Manager. I was delighted to receive a Divisional award for Outstanding Care and Quality during my time managing a successful nursing and dementia home in Shropshire.

I am excited to join Dormy Care as know that I have the same vision to provide outstanding care to our residents in a beautiful environment and working with a team that feels more like a family.

Our Building and Facilities

A very warm welcome to Brockington House, located in the cathedral city of Hereford. Lying on the River Wye, Hereford has some of the most breath-taking countryside views all located around the home.

Our stylish and snug lounges have assisted sofas and chairs, a decorative fireplace, cosy reading corners and social areas. The perfect place for a relaxing afternoon.

Our landscaped gardens have been carefully designed to ensure they are safe for residents to explore. There is wheelchair access throughout and raised flower beds and potting sheds to encourage keen gardeners to continue doing the things they love. On a summers day, we enjoy alfresco dining on our shady patios.

We also have a fully stocked complementary bar is perfect for pre-dinner drinks or perhaps a little night cap. A wide range of wines are available at mealtimes for all to enjoy, including your visitors!

All homes are fitted with the Tersano Lotus Pro - this means limited chemicals and environmentally friendly homes

Brockington House has 70 fully furnished and professionally designed rooms, purpose-built to suit the needs of our residents whilst offering a homely feel. Each room has an ensuite bathroom with specialist equipment and the option for a TV, internet and phone to be installed. Many of our downstairs bedrooms have patio doors that lead out onto the beautiful landscaped gardens, with wheelchair friendly pathways and seating areas designed for the older person.

After working in care of the elderly as a nursing auxiliary in the 1980’s, I commenced my RGN training in 1990 and qualified in 1994. 

 I worked as a Staff Nurse in A&E, as well as Surgical units and obtained my Diploma in Nursing Studies and Bachelor degree in Nursing.  Over a 22-year period, I worked in Saudi Arabia as a Staff Nurse, Head Nurse and Program Director and obtain my Masters degree in Health Care Management.

When I first visited Brockington House I was immediately impressed by the care environment, the mission, vision and values that Dormy Care expects from individuals they employ and began my career with them as Nurse in September and in December 2019, I became the Deputy Home Director.

I enjoy working with the elderly and have a passion and desire to give them the best care ever. I am thrilled to be in this role where I can inspire and motivate other staff to deliver high quality care.

Having worked within the care industry for the majority of my career, I am incredibly excited to be part of the Dormy Care family.

My role will be to support the administration team as well as being the first point of contact when you visit our home. I cannot wait to support our families and their loved ones on the journey of choosing the right care home and am so proud to be able to show you the fantastic facilities we have to offer here. joined Brockington House as an Assistant Administrator in January 2020.

Prior to this position I ran my own hairdressing business for 11 years. This was followed by 10 years in education, supporting young children with autism and their families. I also supported young people with profound and complex disabilities in a residential setting, encouraging independence, equality and diversity.

Earlier this year I was offered the opportunity to progress to the role of Home administrator, this is a busy and varied role with every day being different. There is immense job satisfaction and the interaction with residents and their families is something I enjoy very much.

It is a place where I have found true purpose and leave every day feeling that I have made a difference. Being part of a team is extremely important to me and I am very grateful to work alongside an amazing colleagues at Brockington House.

I began my career as a childcare manager at a Hereford nursery, in 2001 after 15 years I moved across to the care industry. This involved working as a house keeper in the hospitality industry and as a domiciliary carer.

My current role is head housekeeper at Brockington House where I manage a team of 8, this is an extremely enjoyable role that gives me a lot of job satisfaction. It also allows me to interact with all of our residents on a daily basis and build a rapport with them all.

 I am fortunate to work with a fantastic team every day.

Alan spent 3 years in maintenance in another care home environment before joining Brockington House in October 2019. Prior to this he worked for over 7 years in garden and property maintenance, 15 years in Engineering and 10 years within the building Industry. He brings a huge amount of skills and experience to the team.

I have worked at Brockington House since it first opened, as a care assistant. I recently joined the activities team and absolutely love being able to make a difference in our ladies and gentlemen lives.

When I’m on shift, whoever I speak to, see and interact with - I try and make them smile or laugh . If I have done this then I know in my heart I’m doing my job right. It’s the best job I could ever have.

Kelly joined the team at Brockington House as assistant chef in February 2020 and quickly progressed to the position of Second Chef, she had previously worked as a Cook for Herefordshire Council. In September 2021 Kelly progressed to the role of Head Chef thanks to her dedication to delivering high quality meals for our ladies and gentlemen

Moving into Brockington House is all about enjoying the next chapter in your life. It’s a place where you can learn new hobbies, meet new friends and enjoy the luxury onsite facilities in a caring environment. We want it to feel like home, in a place where you are fully supported.

We run daily activities that are tailored to the hobbies and interests of the ladies and gentlemen that live with us. We do everything from art classes to music therapy, games evenings, book clubs, gardening clubs, themed food events and anything else our residents enjoy. We believe that running daily activities helps our residents remain active in body and mind, whilst promoting positive wellbeing.
