Meet The Manager

Charlotte Aspinall is Senior General Manager at Caldy Manor.

Hi, my name is Charlotte Aspinall and I am the Senior General Manger here at Caldy Manor.

I have been a Registered Nurse (Adult) since 1996 and also have a degree from Edge Hill University in Health and Social Care, which predominantly focused on the care of older adults.

I joined Barchester in 2013 and have held roles as a Deputy Manager, General Manager and, more recently, as a Clinical Development Nurse within the Care & Quality team. Before Barchester, I’ve worked in the NHS and private sector, where I specialised in older adult nursing.

I am passionate about what I do and have very high standards. As a team here at Caldy Manor, we will always endeavour to provide choice and person-centred care, in addition to delivering professional and excellent services to those we support.

Deputy Manager

Hi, my name is Hannah, and I am the Deputy Manager here at Caldy Manor.

I have 10 years of experience working with people with mental health and challenging behaviour, and I worked at Caldy Manor as a Senior Carer before becoming the Deputy Manager.

I like my role because I have more responsibility now to make changes that will benefit the residents and my colleagues.

Deborah Thomas
Deborah Thomas
Activities Coordinator

I am an experienced Activities Coordinator. I have been in this role for the last four years and have worked in residential, nursing and EMI settings, in both care homes and the community.

I feel it is important for care homes to promote independence and allow residents to continue with previous hobbies and interests, as well as encouraging new experiences.

My particular interest is in arts and crafts

Activities Coordinator

I have worked in health and social care for the last 3 years, mostly in care homes as a healthcare assistant. I enjoy event planning, crafts and would consider myself creative, so am looking forward to my new role as an activities coordinator at Caldy Manor.

Outside of work I have 2 young children, so a lot of my time is taken up with after school clubs. When time does allow it, I spend time with my family and friends. I am also presently organising my wedding for October 2020.

Head of Housekeeping

I enjoy working with the housekeeping team. I like talking to residents and making sure their rooms are clean and tidy. I want to help residents remain as independent as possible.

The Importance Of Meal Times

It is essential that the people we support have access to healthy food at all times, so our fantastic catering team are always on hand to prepare tasty and nutritious cuisine. Our food is always cooked to highest standard and with residents’ preferences always in mind. The importance of a balanced diet is never forgotten here, so we offer a varied menu that has something for everyone to enjoy.

For residents that have difficulties in swallowing we modify the menu of the day so that is it a soft, palatable dish.  To support our chefs in producing these dishes, our hospitality and Chef Academy organises theory and practical workshops.  Working in partnership with Nutricia, our practical workshops involve all chefs and deputy managers learning about dysphagia and producing these modified menus. The chefs work with the chef trainer to prepare fork mashable and thick puree meals to the correct consistency, taste and presentation.  The deputy managers can then ensure all modified menus served are presented correctly for our residents.

Our chefs are recruited on the basis of an interview with the regional hospitality support team and the manager for the home. Selection also involves a practical element where potential cooks are asked to cook for and meet a panel of people living in the home. Chefs take their job extremely seriously and our annual Chef competition sees our chefs battle it out in regional heats and then at a national final for the accolade of 'Barchester's Chef of the Year.

Activities Are So Important

Our Activities Coordinators work together to provide daily activities suited to the tastes of residents. We encourage those we support to continue with any hobbies whilst they stay at home. We also hold group activities, such as exercise to music, sing-alongs, craft sessions and visits to local places of interest. There are also evening events, including cheese & wine evenings and race nights. We keep families up-to-date through our newsletter and notices that can be found across the home. Family and friends are always welcome to join in
