Meet The Manager

Christine Barber is Home Manager at Highbury House Nursing Home.

Since the start of my career in care, I have always felt privileged to work in the care sector. It all started when I was 16 and I began working in a nursing home in Horsham as a Healthcare Assistant. I am now the proud Nursing Care Manager at Highbury House and I find it very rewarding to be working with a brilliant team and giving great person-centred care. I am passionate about my family and my work and I joined Southcare Homes because their family values go all the way to the heart of the company and into the hearts of the staff that work here. I hope my extensive experience will help Highbury House achieve its potential, continue offering personalized care to residents and remain a happy home for everyone within.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

I enjoy making residents happy. Going the extra mile to make sure their time in the care home is comfortable and relaxing and enjoyable.

I really enjoy working in the care sector especially getting to know all the people I meet - both the staff and the residents. Once of the rewarding aspects of my job is seeing the residents happy and enjoying themselves. I really like the garden and outside space at Highbury House. Outside of work, I like to read and enjoy walks in the fresh air.

I believe that working in care is about truly caring for and helping other people - making a difference. I feel passionate about nursing. It’s a vocation for me, not a job.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

I’m proud of all my years I’ve worked at Highbury House, but I would say the last couple of months. Every time I faced difficulties or have had a rough time, I had the most brilliant team by my side and I feel proud to be part of it.

What do you think makes Highbury House special?

Highbury House is a place called “Home” by the residents as they feel comfortable, safe and loved. The staff at Highbury House make the residents feel this way and work to improve their quality of life and be a family for them.

How do you like to relax?

Relax? What’s that? Even in my dreams I am at work! But jokes aside I like to read and spend time with my family.

Activities Are So Important

At Highbury House, we really focus on personalisation. Not only do we provide person-centred care for our residents, we take the time to get to know each of our residents so we can tailor our daily activities to their preferences, hobbies and lifestyles.

It is very important to us that residents maintain their routines, hobbies, abilities and skills. Whether its painting, gardening or film-making, we ensure every day is fun and special.

Our dedicated activities coordinator creates fun, meaningful activities for our residents and organises regular entertainment evenings. Relatives and guests are also welcome to join in the fun.

We usually arrange Oomph! trips and other outings for our residents so that they can enjoy a day out with each other and their families. But currently, we have been making use of our large garden for games, activities BBQs and other events.
