Meet The Manager

Rachel Smith-Harrison is Home Manager at Blandford Grange Care Home.

I am a dedicated home manager with over 20 years of experience in healthcare, starting as a nurse in 1997. Since 2020, I’ve focused on providing exceptional care in nursing homes, ensuring residents live fulfilling lives in a supportive environment. Outside of work, I’m a proud mother of three and an avid marathon runner.

Blandford Grange is working within the government guidelines to help protect its staff and clients.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Independent Assessments We have been independently assessed in our approach to infection control.
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

Activities and entertainment are a core part of quality care.

We pride ourselves on offering a diverse, enriching range of activities and entertainment at each of our homes. At each home, a dedicated activities coordinator is responsible for researching and facilitating enjoyable activities for residents every day.

A weekly timetable of activities is in place at each home, supplemented by additional opportunities. We take on board feedback and requests for new activities or outings, so that residents are able to continue to enjoy the hobbies and pastimes they have participated in over the years.

Regular activities include:

  • Craft sessions
  • Musical entertainment from local entertainers
  • Exercise and dance classes
  • Beauty treatments
  • Quiz sessions
  • Film clubs
  • Gardening and birdwatching
  • Specialist activities include:
  • Visits from ‘Pets as Therapy’ dogs
  • Intergenerational projects with local toddler groups

At Blandford Grange:

A well thought out activities programme lies at the heart of our home aiming to meet various interests and the physical and psychological well-being of our residents.  This includes engaging group visits from various local musicians, artists, therapy sessions with animals and access to the sensory room.  One to one sessions are arranged for residents who are unable to attend group sessions.

The local area has plenty on offer for visiting relatives and friends ranging from a visit to the quintessential English market to a walk in the beautiful countryside with magnificent views over the nearby villages from Hambledon Hill.
