Delivering fulfilling person-centred and group activities is extremely important for our residents. They have so much to enjoy – including animal therapy. Not only do we have our own kitten, we have a special dog who visits us daily. Lady, a Yorkshire terrier, always enjoys a fuss and a cuddle.
Spending time with animals has so many benefits for our residents’ wellbeing, especially those living with dementia. It’s a truly calming activity that is wonderful for those who once had pets of their own.
Other four-legged friends that are a firm fixture in our care home’s activities calendar include kittens and cats from Well Cat, a local sanctuary in Birmingham. The residents really enjoy providing comfort to the kittens until they find their forever home. It gives them a real sense of purpose.
We regularly welcome musicians from across Bartley Green and Birmingham into the home. Performing shows and music from across the eras, you will often find us dressing up and dancing the afternoon away. Our residential care residents particularly love these performances, which are a real highlight in their social calendar. They love to teach us a move or two and often sing at the top of their voices!
And talking of activities that our residents adore, we also welcome local school children from across Bartley Green. As soon as the children arrive a buzz fills the home. The youngsters love to make truly fabulous memories with our residents. From baking, arts and crafts and even gardening – it’s a magical sight to see them together.
However, all the fun and games do not stay within these four walls. It’s so important that our residents continue to stay connected to Birmingham and the wider area. That’s why you will see us taking part in day trips throughout the year, including visits to the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, garden centres, local shops and even schools.
