Meet The Manager

Nicky Pett is General Manager at Barnes Lodge.

"I have worked for the company for over 20 years! I started off as a night carer many years ago in Tonbridge, then moved onto days at St Martins in Larkfield. I then very quickly was promoted to flexi senior carer, then permanent senior carer. From there, I worked my way up to assistant manager, still at St Martins. I then moved on to The Dynes in Kemsing as a Manager, then in 2018 I moved to Barnes Lodge as General Manager.

"I love my job because we can really change people's lives. I feel truly priveleged to be able to work with the residents and the team of staff here."

Beautifully decorated, with bright and modern facilities throughout, Barnes Lodge is our stunning flagship care home in Tudeley Lane, Tonbridge. The  home opened in 2016 to care for those over 55 and is set amongst established trees on the outskirts of Tonbridge.

With a homely, warm and friendly environment throughout, Barnes Lodge provides person centred and compassionate care for older people with a variety of needs including people living with dementia and those with nursing needs. The home can provide permanent or respite (short term) care, which can provide an opportunity for regular carers to take a holiday or simply spend some time looking after their own needs, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is receiving the very best care. Our respite care is person centred and supports residents to get to know one another as well as the environment and find out more about life at Barnes Lodge.

Overlooked by greenery, Barnes Lodge boasts spectacular views across the Somerhill Estate and is conveniently located to explore the bustle of the town centre or surrounding villages and woodlands.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Contact Tracing We have measures in place to identify and trace contact between people in our care setting.
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Regulatory Assessment We have been assessed by the care regulator in our approach to infection control.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Covid-19 Emergency Support Framework

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

Barnes Lodge has a purpose built safe visiting pod in the grounds of the care home, this is heated in the winter and cooled in the summer months. There is comfortable seating for all and a separate entrance for residents and visitors to maintain safety.

We always want to put our residents first and this means trying to accommodate as many visitors as we can, but ensuring everybody's safety at all times. In compliance with government guidelines a named constant visitor can have a meaningful indoor visit with their loved one. In addition if the weather is warm we still offer garden visits.

All visits are booked in advance and a visitor guide is available upon request.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

Designed with the best practice of dementia care in mind, Barnes Lodge is spread over three floors, accessed by lift of stairs. Our interior design team worked with us, using our 50 years of experience in care and housing, to create an environment which is both modern, homely and fit for purpose. The home is split into areas, each with their own seating areas and facilities. A dining room on each floor provides a social hub at meal times, with the ground floor patio doors opening out on to the lovely landscaped garden, where our pet chickens live. Description

Barnes Lodge has three distinct floors with capacity for 33 residents on the ground floor, and 34 on each of floors one and two. Each floor is divided into two wings, with a maximum of 17 rooms in each.

Whilst the actual level of personal care each resident receives will depend on their individual needs, our usual staffing levels on each floor during the day are; one experienced senior carer who has achieved, or are working towards, their level 3 award in Health and Social Care and six care assistants, who have achieved their level 2 in Health and Social Care, or are working to achieve, a Care Certificate. In addition, our 34 dedicated nursing care beds are overseen by a registered nurse.

During the night there are three care assistants working on each floor, plus one senior care assistant working on two out of the three floors and a registered nurse overseeing the nursing beds on the other.

Residents can choose whether to have a male or female carer for their personal care needs and where possible we will accommodate their wishes, however there may be times when a male carer is not available. In this case we will always ensure we let the resident know well in advance of their care being provided.

Each floor also has a dedicated social activities facilitator who organises internal and external activities for our residents to enjoy.

In addition, we have a care team manager and a deputy manager (who is also a registered nurse) and a general manager who, together with the senior administrator, comprise the home’s management team.

Admin Team Leader

"I have worked for Rapport Housing and Care since September 2011.

My first role was as a Home Administrator at a care home in Tonbridge and then in August 2016 we were all very fortunate to move to Barnes Lodge, a brand new residential care and nursing home. My role then changed to Admin Leader and we now have an admin team of 3. My role is very varied, interesting and enjoyable and Barnes Lodge is a happy home for our residents to live and for staff to work in.

I very much enjoy working in the care sector and although my role is more behind the scenes than direct care I feel privileged to work for an organisation providing care, compassion and companionship to older people."

Activities Are So Important

At Barnes Lodge, we have dedicated full time social activity facilitators on each of our three floors, who promote active and independent living. With a varied and innovative range of daily activities we aim to enhance the wellbeing of our residents, as well as supporting the continuity of individual hobbies.

Activities vary but can include arts and crafts, baking, exercise sessions, gardening, baking and flower arranging to name a few. Activity staff support residents to suggest activities and provide feedback on what they enjoy and things they might like to try.

In addition to the calendar of activities within the home, residents often enjoy days out. When the weather permits, trips to nearby parks, beaches and other places of interest are enjoyed. During the colder months, residents are accompanied on trips to local coffee shops, shopping centres and garden centres.

Barnes Lodge has developed some excellent relationships within the community since opening its doors and the residents receive regular visits from schools, Beaver groups and other community groups, who join them for activities.
