Rachael Thorpe is Home Manager at Avalon Court Care Centre.
"I have been working in the care sector for 31 years and joined Avalon Court Care Home in 2015. Originally from Lincoln, my career began as a Support Worker, and I soon focused on elderly care, which led to my progression into management. Along the way, I completed numerous qualifications that helped me advance into senior roles.
At Avalon CourtCare Home, we have an incredible team of professionals who go the extra mile to support our residents. By leading from the front, I ensure our residents feel valued and receive the outstanding care they deserve.
Outside of work, I enjoy walking my dog, baking, cooking, and spending quality time with my family."
Avalon Court is a thriving residential care home in Coventry, offering a fun, friendly, and welcoming community to new residents and their families. Our home happily accommodates couples and companions who wish to remain together as they continue their care journey and make new memories side by side. Why not come along, have a look for yourself, and enjoy a chat with our Home Manager over a cuppa in the garden?

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Standing in a elevated position on Banner Lane, with a commanding view over woodland that originally formed part of the historic Arden Forest, the home proudly announces its stylish credentials at the first sight. The vibrant décor and full length windows of the foyer make a stunning impact on entering and proves a popular spot for residents to relax in too. Our café on the ground floor opens onto a large rear garden and terrace that surrounds the home, another favourite place for residents and their guests. Dementia care is delivered from our Memory Care Suite. We work closely with families to gain an insight into the life stories of our residents through recollections and family photographs. This enables care plans to be truly person-centred and connected to family members. We also make use of the many resources that the internet can offer for use as reminiscence material. | Activities Are So Important |

We like to get out and about at Avalon Court Care Centre whether it is a stroll through Bannerbrook woods across the road or just a trip to the local shops. When we are not doing this, you can find us enjoying some fun in our splendid rooftop garden with its amazing views and big sky. Group activities on a wide variety of subjects are conducted in the ground floor cafe or one of our lounges and are a great way to meet fellow residents. There really is something for everyone and guests are always welcome to join in. See below for a selection of what our Activity Co-coordinators put on for us in their stimulating and interesting programme of daily recreation: • Visiting the Butterfly Farm Most residents like to join in the activities with gusto, as we try to devise something for everybody, but it is their choice. We do like to get out of our retirement home and visit local sites of interest as much as we can, Warwick Castle for example, or nearer home, a walk through Bannerbrook woods. Then there’s always shopping, a trip to the local pub, garden centre or the theatre. Our minibus is well recognised throughout Coventry and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside! |
