Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

The safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff is always our highest priority. We follow the latest government guidelines to ensure the highest standards of infection prevention and control at all times.

Our home benefits from advanced cleaning technology, including fogging machines that cleanse the air and soft furnishings as well as surfaces — helping to provide a safer, healthier environment. Rigorous cleaning routines are carried out daily, with weekly and monthly audits to ensure our standards remain consistently high.

Every member of our team is fully trained in infection control procedures, so you can feel confident that your loved one is cared for in a clean, well-maintained, and protected setting.

As a small home, we’re able to offer truly personalised care, getting to know each resident as an individual and tailoring our support to their needs. Residents can relax in our bright and comfortable TV lounge to socialise with friends or enjoy a quiet moment. For those who prefer privacy, every bedroom offers the option to watch personally chosen programmes in comfort.

Mealtimes are a highlight of the day, served in our inviting dining room where residents can enjoy traditional home-style cooking prepared by our experienced chef. Special diets can be catered for at special request.

To make life even more comfortable, we also arrange regular visits from trusted professionals including a hairdresser, chiropodist, optician, and dentist — so residents can receive essential services without having to leave the home.

Activities Are So Important

At Whitehaven Care Home, we believe that meaningful activities are essential to enhancing quality of life, promoting independence, and encouraging connection. Our activities programme is designed to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of our residents, with a strong focus on engagement, enjoyment, and personal growth.

We offer a wide variety of daily activities that include:

Sensory Activities – Tailored to individuals with learning disabilities, sensory impairments, or dementia, our sensory sessions include music therapy, aromatherapy, tactile exploration, light and sound experiences, and use of sensory rooms and calming spaces. These sessions help reduce anxiety, stimulate cognitive function, and provide comfort and connection.

Creative Arts & Crafts – Residents are encouraged to express themselves through painting, drawing, crafting, and seasonal decoration projects, all supported by our caring staff.

Music & Movement – From sing-alongs and music appreciation to gentle exercise, dance, and rhythm-based games, our music and movement sessions promote wellbeing and social interaction.

Life Skills Activities – We support residents to participate in everyday tasks such as cooking, baking, gardening, and simple household routines. These activities foster independence, build confidence, and create a sense of purpose.

Community & Social Events – We regularly host themed days, cultural celebrations, visiting entertainers, and community outings. Residents are supported to maintain friendships and stay connected with the wider community.

Relaxation & Wellbeing – Mindfulness, hand massage, storytelling, and one-to-one time are all part of our person-centred approach to wellbeing, ensuring everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

At Whitehaven Care Home, activities are not just scheduled—they're woven into daily life. We adapt and personalise every experience to ensure that each resident feels engaged, supported, and empowered to enjoy life to the fullest.
