Our Building and Facilities

Thorp House is a beautifully and thoughtfully converted country residence. Not only does it serve a specialised purpose very well, the pleasant atmosphere induces relaxation and a feeling of content among residents. The entire home is very attractive throughout and is decorated and furnished to fit in with the style of the house, but in a modern, practical way. The members of staff never forget that this is actually the residents’ home; and as part of the Kingsley culture, individuals are encouraged to personalise their room as much as they like. Our residents spend their days doing exactly as they wish. It is, after all, their life and Thorp House is their home.

Thorp House Nursing Home is located in the picturesque rural village of Griston, close to the town of Watton and is within easy reach of the larger towns of Attleborough, East Dereham and Thetford.
Thorp House really benefits from a country house atmosphere. Converted to a residential home in the late 1970s, it sensitively combines Victorian grandeur with light and convenient modern rooms. Placed along the walls of the corridors there are interesting and stimulating things to look at, and nearby there are cosy places to sit and rest. The home is very well appointed with a number of spacious, pleasant and well-equipped dining rooms, lounges and conservatories, and has a range of different sized and shaped private rooms, including self-contained bungalow style accommodation for the more independent residents.

Kingsley Healthcare’s truly person centred approach to care creates a positive outlook and focuses on quality of life and relationships. We place great importance on the lives our residents have led, and spend time with them and family members to find out about their tastes, history, hobbies and interests. The information gained helps us to create bespoke care plans and lifestyles for each individual, which are paramount in providing them with the best care.

Family and friends are significant partners with Thorp House and are welcome to come and go as they please throughout the day. We make a point of listening to the opinions of the people who live with us about the services we provide and welcome the input of family members.

Each Kingsley care home is unique, but we all have a set of highly respected and award-winning features embedded within the culture, as a result the special way we care for our residents makes a big difference to their lives. Our daily emphasis is on the care that our residents need, whether that is physical, emotional, spiritual or mental.

We are committed to providing the best possible outcomes for people living with a dementia, and we achieve this through our ‘Wings’ (Welcome, Individuality, Nurturing, Guidance, Sensitivity) philosophy of care. This award-winning approach is nationally recognized and our bespoke learning programme is designed to ensure that the person with a dementia is at the heart of everything we do. All of our homes are designed to be dementia friendly, as you will plainly see at Thorp House.

Our qualified, caring staff are friendly, enthusiastic and committed to enhancing the residents’ well-being. They connect with our residents through meaningful communication and encourage them to interact with daily living activities and appropriate activities.

The staff here are friendly, hard-working and kind. They strive to work well as a team and create a family atmosphere within the home; making our residents happy makes them happy.

We pride ourselves on our team, the members of which work very well together.

They have been selected by using a thorough recruitment process, which provides reassurance that the staff supporting our residents are sincere in their caring attitudes. New members go through a very intensive induction training scheme, where they are supported and helped to overcome any difficulties they might encounter during the working day. The team looks after our residents with emphasis on providing the best quality of life, and we strive to give purpose to every single day our residents are with us.

The Importance Of Meal Times

We encourage all our residents to live as healthily as possible, to enjoy long and pleasant lives. Where possible we encourage exercise, keep minds active and provide nutritious food. Residents are supported in maintaining their independence as much as possible, so we embrace and encourage ways in which they can do this.

Our healthy, balanced meals are all prepared in our own kitchen using only the best, locally sourced ingredients. We understand that individual tastes and eating habits can vary enormously so the menu choices include a great selection of nutritious delights and tasty favourites that are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.
