What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

At Applegarth Care Home, the safety and wellbeing of our residents is our highest priority.

Our dedicated team receives comprehensive training, regular refresher training, and ongoing professional development in areas including safeguarding, infection prevention and control, moving and handling, medication management, first aid, and dementia care. We carry out regular risk assessments, medication audits, health and safety checks, and quality assurance reviews to ensure we consistently deliver safe, high-quality care. We maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the home, work closely with healthcare professionals, and tailor care plans to each resident's individual needs.

By investing in our staff and continually reviewing our practices, we provide a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment where residents and their families can feel confident and reassured.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Air Filtration & Purification We are using air filtration and/or air purification devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Independent Assessments We have been independently assessed in our approach to infection control.
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

There are two communal lounges in the home, with one overlooking the garden. The main lounge is where the activity sessions are generally held, and the garden lounge is for those who prefer a quieter space to read, chat, or watch TV.

There is a bright and airy separate dining room where residents enjoy a variety of freshly home cooked food. Residents are encouraged to have their meals together and use this opportunity for socializing but those who prefer having their meals in their rooms are given the choice to do so.

The home has a delightful garden and a patio area with seating which residents and families enjoy throughout the warmer months. In addition, we employ handymen and gardeners as well as other professionals to keep the home safe and running smoothly for you.

Activities Are So Important

Our in-house activities coordinator Lindie provides stimulating and engaging activities for all our residents.

We appreciate that our residents have different interests, hobbies and capabilities and that’s why we create a fun and varied program to cater for everyone, whether that’s learning new skills or revisiting old pastimes.

We regularly engage in arts and crafts, quizzes and puzzles, visits to garden centres and welcome visiting musicians and entertainers, as well as local school children. We also welcome young volunteers who are looking to gain work experience.

We allow for quiet times where a one-to-one chat down memory lane may be what is required.
