Veronica McCleary is Care Home Manager at The Manse Residential Care Home.
With 27 years’ experience in the care sector, home manager Veronica McCleary is a shining star. She has even won an annual award for the kindness, care and compassion she shows her residents and team. Veronica was crowned the overall winner of Sanctuary’s Employee of the Year awards, after beating hundreds of nominees. She said of the accolade: “The award is not just for me, it’s for the team because without their support I would never have achieved what I have done. It’s amazing and I feel much appreciated.”
The Manse is a welcoming care home located on the outskirts of Croydon, Surrey, in a residential area of South Norwood.
On the main bus route into Croydon, our care home is close to the shops, restaurants, theatre and other attractions this historic town has to offer.
Our dedicated team provides a range of care and support for our residents, including residential care, dementia care and respite care.
Our care home has been designed with the usual comforts you’d expect such as welcoming lounges and dining rooms, a light and airy conservatory, sensory gardens and cosy bedrooms, which provide a warm place for our residents to rest and relax.
However it’s the small personal touches and our friendly team, who care for our residents as if they were members of their own family, which make The Manse a true home from home.
Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.
To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.
Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.
We welcome visits from family and friends and have an open door policy, so whether loved ones like to pop in for a coffee or take part in an activity, we encourage them to become part of the community within our home.
We hold regular meetings for residents and relatives, enabling our residents and their loved ones to be directly involved in everyday life at The Manse.

Our Building and Facilities |

The Manse has some fantastic facilities, including a light and airy conservatory which is a peaceful spot of the home. Residents often enjoy group and one to one activities here, or simply sit back and relax in the warmer months, spending time together or with their visitors. There is a large and welcoming dining room on each floor which residents use to chat and spend time together as well as for eating their meals. Elsewhere, there is a hairdressing salon in the heart of the care home. A hairdresser from Croydon visits every Tuesday for a spot of pampering during appointments with the residents. If they wish they can book their own appointments as they would have done before moving into residential care, enhancing that sense of independence. Outside the home, there are tranquil gardens which are a peaceful spot in the heart of South Norwood. They are landscaped with raised flower beds for our residents who like to do a spot of light gardening. The front grounds also include a glorious Victorian gazebo, providing a shaded seating area for people to sit back and relax during the warmer months. |

The Importance Of Meal Times |
---|
Our catering team prides themselves on preparing nutritious, seasonal home-cooked meals, along with mouth-watering home-baked cakes for afternoon tea. Residents help us to shape the menus and our catering team spends time with them to get feedback on the dishes and their likes and dislikes. They are also able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements. Breakfast includes a wide variety of choice from cereals and toast to a traditional cooked breakfast. Lunch and dinnertimes see a selection of sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, jacket potatoes and hot meals such as a Sunday roast with all the trimmings and favourites including fish and chips, cottage pie and a hearty casserole. There is also an array of snacks and refreshments available throughout the day for residents and their loved ones if they get a bit peckish. |

Activities Are So Important |
---|
We believe it is important that our residents spend their time as they choose, so have a dedicated activities person to support them to take part in interesting activities, rekindle old past times and try new things. We have a hairdressing salon and our residents also enjoy being pampered with manicures and hand massages. Regular activities on offer include everything from baking, light exercise sessions, animal therapy, bingo, quizzes, arts and crafts and live music entertainment. The care home also hosts regular themed community events throughout the year, including summer fetes and Christmas fairs. Our residents enjoy taking part in day trips to the theatre and local garden centres, as well as popular tourist spots including Eastbourne, Brighton and Richmond Park. |
