Ian Dunthorne is Home Manager at The Lindsay.
My name is Ian and I joined The Lindsay as home manager in December 2024.
I live locally to the home although I am from Bedfordshire originally.
I worked as a home manager for Bupa for 7 years before moving to New Zealand and subsequently worked as a general manager for Bupa New Zealand for 11 years. As I got older, I felt the pull to return to my home country and moved back to the UK towards the end of 2024.My passion is travel.
I have been lucky enough to travel widely around the world and this is the basis for most of my interests and passions outside of work.
The Lindsay is a care home offering nursing, residential, dementia and palliative care.
Short stays and day care are offered to help both carers and their elderly loved ones at times when they need a break or a little extra support.
Rated 'Good' by the CQC (August 2025), The Lindsay is situated a few minutes from the centre of Westbourne and all its amenities – shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The home has a cinema and café as well as lounges, a library and private dining areas for family and friends to come and enjoy when visiting their loved ones or celebrating a birthday or anniversary together.
This home also benefits from an onsite beauty salon, with a full-time hairdresser offering a brilliant service to all the residents. At The Lindsay, staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so it creates a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients. Soon after a resident arrives at The Lindsay, staff discuss their personal preferences and dietary needs with them. There’s a real sense of community at the home. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |
---|
Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Activities Are So Important |
---|
There’s no typical day at The Lindsay, but we arrange plenty to do, both here at the home as well as out and about. We believe it’s #NeverTooLate We help to make residents’ long-held wishes come true, or to tick something off their ‘bucket list’. We’ve helped them hold an art show, milk a cow, have a pamper day and go to the football! Getting out and about We like to arrange trips to wherever residents would like to go, and so we share a minibus with another Bupa home nearby for trips to the seaside, boat trips, and shopping. Lots of special interests With our Knit and Natter group, gardening, bowling, darts, pottery, art, and cookery, there is lots for the residents to do. Our own library and cinema Residents are encouraged to keep up their enjoyment of books, and a great way to have peaceful moments. Movie showings bring people together, and family and friends are always invited. We have computers for residents and their family to use. |
