Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

With 76 bedrooms, offering residential and nursing care, we think carefully about the type of room each resident needs. We have 42 residential bedrooms, and for those requiring nursing care, we have 34 bedrooms, two lounges, a dining room and dedicated Wellbeing Suite.

We have the option for double rooms and all the residential rooms are en-suite. There are luxury bath and shower rooms in each area for residents to use with or without assistance.

All our rooms have been refurbished to the highest specifications with new furniture, soft furnishings and fittings. We have designed the rooms with your comfort in mind. Your bedroom furniture consists of: an appropriate bed suitable to your needs, wardrobe, bedside table with lockable drawer, armchair and other furniture suitable to the size of the room. Your bed linen and towels are provided by the home.

We understand that moving into The Granby will be a considerable transition, but one we try to make feel as easy as possible. Your room is your own personal space, which is why we encourage you to personalise it if you like, by hanging your favourite pictures or bringing small pieces of furniture.

We’re a diverse group, from different backgrounds and with different roles, but we all have something fundamental in common – every single one of us is passionate about care.

From our Home Manager, Michelle Poole, Deputy Manager and the care team to our chefs and receptionists, we are always on hand to help, but with enough empathy to know when to let you rest.

As well as our team of carers and nurses, we have a weekly GP surgery in each unit so residents wishing to see the doctor can do so. We also have local dentists, opticians and chiropodists who provide services to residents at the home. For those in need of pampering, our beautician and hairdresser take appointments every week.

Care Homes no longer work on 'staff ratios'. brighterkind homes take pride in providing a higher level of personalised care for all our residents and have in place a suitably qualified, competent and skilled team to meet people’s care and treatment needs. Your Home Manager will discuss the level of care you require before you move in.

When you arrive at The Granby, we will work with you to develop a personalised care plan that will include everything from your hobbies, exercise, and dietary preferences, to any health issues you might have. It will determine the level and type of care you receive. This can vary from minimal residential care in your own home to full support here at The Granby.

The Importance Of Meal Times

At The Granby, we love our food. We firmly believe that when you eat well, you live well too. This is a core part of our brighterkind philosophy of care, centring on good nutrition and the importance of mealtimes as a  social occasion.

Each day our chef prepares restaurant-style meals combining variety with a balanced diet and an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. And we can cater to any dietary or health requirements, however complex.

We have a large dining room that is beautifully decorated and always becomes a hub of conversation and laughter. Our mealtimes give even our more frail residents a chance to come together and socialise. Whether it’s a Sunday roast or birthday buffet, we encourage our residents to make the most of living in a friendly environment.

Of course, when, where and who you eat with is entirely up to you. Friends and family can join you as often as you’d like (at a small charge) and our extras menu gives you the option to order snacks at any time of the day.

Activities Are So Important

A willingness to get involved and try new things is something we see time and again, once people are given the opportunity. We have dedicated Recreation and Activities Coordinators who oversee everything, but all our staff regularly brainstorm new ideas, too. And our residents vote on their suggestions at our monthly activity meetings, so we can be sure everyone’s looking forward to something, every day.

Activities vary each week: from gardening and film club to exercise classes and pet therapy. And everything’s flexible – if it’s sunny we go for a walk along The Stray or go outside, so everyone can appreciate the best of the day.

We’ve built excellent links with the community, allowing residents to continue their lives outside the home with ease. Having our own transportation means we can take residents out to run errands or have days out at Ripley Castle and Follifoot to feed the horses.

We often have local entertainers, musicians, magicians and dancers performing at the home too.

Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents:
