Meet The Manager

Margaret Strong is Registered Manager at George Brooker House.

Since 1992, Maggie has dedicated her career to George Brooker House, where she discovered her true vocation in caring for the elderly. In 2015, her commitment and leadership were recognised with her appointment as Registered Manager. In 2022, Maggie received the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her outstanding service to the care sector and her 29 years of dedication to George Brooker House, especially during the COVID‑19 pandemic. Our Building and Facilities

The House has three pleasant communal areas with high-backed, comfortable armchairs where residents can relax, socialise and enjoy television. The largest of these communal areas has an open-plan layout with wide windows overlooking the pleasant garden area. This room is at the heart of the home; it is the setting for our group activities and events.

The other communal areas are more peaceful and suited for those who like to relax and enjoy quiet chitter chatter among friends. One of those areas are set up for sensory activities and are perfect for those living with Dementia.

Mealtimes are enjoyed together in a choice of bright and welcoming dining rooms. To add a true domestic feel to the place, the home has kitchenettes on both floors where residents can get involved in kitchen activities and home baking.

Activities Are So Important

The physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our residents are of utmost importance to us. We have an activity team in place that cover a 7-day week. They will work with residents on an individual basis to ensure that activities are formulated to a person-centred need. We pride ourselves on our fun filled schedule and this is also circulated to the relatives to encourage active, meaningful participation and to build friendships. We have a visiting C of E congregation that attends once a month and this consists of prayer and singing. For more information please visit our Facebook Page.

The daily schedule includes both individual and group activities and adapted to suit resident’s preference and personality.

The staff and volunteers organise a number of day trips and outings throughout the year, this could be trips that we all take for granted such as a bus journey to the local supermarket or competitive activities such as ten pin bowling. Our residents also attend regular community based activities such as the fortnightly Dementia Choir that is based in Hornchurch.

Special in-house entertainment and events are organised regularly. We also celebrate residents’ birthdays with freshly made cakes from the kitchen, and themed menus mark other important calendar events.
