Meet The Manager

Kerry O'Brien is The Registered Manager at Alt Park Nursing Home.

Kerry is a registered mental health nurse (RMN) with over 20 years of care experience, 7 years of this has been managing care homes. Kerry is very experienced in care homes and is committed to providing a high– quality service. She has a passion for supporting those with dementia and mental health needs and is a hands- on manager who often spends time working alongside staff with residents. Kerry has previously been nominated for prestigious awards such as Leaders in Social Care and Care Home Manager of the year at the National Care Awards.
She is ultimately responsible for the effective and professional running of the care home but will allocate time to discuss any aspect of our Residents care or any problems they may be experiencing.

The Home is registered and inspected by Care Quality Commission to provide Residential and Dementia care for both males and females as follows: Dementia – 35 places, Diagnostic and screening procedures, Treatment of disease, disorder or injury, The maximum number of Service Users allowed at any one time is 35.

Our Building and Facilities

The home is set on two floors and provides accommodation of 35 single rooms. There are three large open plan lounges leading to a south-facing conservatory, which offers both ample seating and a breath-taking view of the main garden area. 

The home also accommodates 12 single bedrooms downstairs, all individually dressed to suit the unique needs of the residents. On the first floor, there are 23 single bedrooms, 5 of which have en-suite facility.

The three lounges are confined with their own identity and purpose - quiet lounge, main lounge and dining lounge. All lounges are equipped with flat screen tv's, radio & reading material.

The dining room lounge has direct access to the conservatory and kitchen allowing residents to request drinks and snack in-between regular meals offering both ample seating and a breath-taking view of the main garden area.

The conservatory also accommodates day-time activities with the support of the activity co-ordinator.

Description

Alt Park Home has 43 members of staff: 33 of whom are directly involved with providing care for our Residents. Between them they have over 100 years of care experience. All our Senior Carers hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and more than 55% of staff hold an NVQ Level 2 and others are working towards it.

Our cooks work on alternate days preparing and providing meals to our residents 3 times a day to meet each individual dietary need.

Alt Park Nursing Home invests in a wide range of training for all our staff members, not only do we complete the mandatory training, we also complete additional training courses such as Catheter Care, Challenging Behaviour, Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool, Dysphasia, Common Health Problems, End of Life Care and much more. All our staff re-train every year in dementia to keep our knowledge up to date to ensure we provide the best care.

Therapeutic activities are available for all our residents including those living with dementia; these include the normal recreational events. Activities are planned and actioned through our Activities Co-ordinator; a 4 weekly plan is available.
