Meet The Manager

Katy Namyslaw is Home Manager at St Clements Nursing Home.

A warm welcome to everyone visiting our website. St.Clements Nursing Home is a bespoke conversion specialising in delivering excellent person centred care for up to 25 residents with complex dementia and nursing care needs. The house is situated in the leafy suburbs to the north of Norwich’s city centre. It is close to pretty St Clements Park and has plenty of pleasant communal areas and a well-maintained garden.

If you’re looking for a home offering exceptional nursing care, where residents can choose to do as much or as little as they like, then St Clements is the solution.

Residents can get up in the morning at whatever time they like and have a choice of hot and cold food and drink. They can opt to eat in their rooms, in the lounges or dining areas. Staff often sit and eat with the residents and don’t wear uniforms or badges, which adds to the relaxed, homely feel at mealtimes.

Families and friends are welcomed at all times of the day and can join loved ones for dinner, whether in their rooms or otherwise.

Hot drinks and snacks are served throughout the day.

For lunch and supper there is a choice of mains and desserts and we invite the able residents to help set the tables, a simple thing that can be therapeutic for many.

Mealtimes are a sociable time and the staff are skilled at encouraging even the quietest residents to become involved in social interactions. After supper, some residents opt to go to bed early or retire to their rooms, while others stay up until later, relaxing in their choice of communal area. There are hot and cold drinks, alcohol is available and there is NO set bedtime, just as there would be if the residents were in their own house.

Our Building and Facilities

St.Clements is located in Norwich along a quiet tree-lined road, close to the city centre but conveniently located close to the inner ring road, making it easy to reach for friends and family.

The home is also very close to bus and railway stations, parks and local shops. The house is set back from the road and the building itself presents an attractive frontage, behind which lies a spacious and loving home. Because of its emphasis on nursing and specialised dementia care, St Clements serves a wide community around the Norwich area.

St Clements has a mix of old and new architecture and when we refurbish the views of residents are taken into account.

The home has been installed with electric and manual hoists, stand-aid hoists, a lift and bathing, shower and laundry facilities. We also provide call bells, assistive technology to prevent falls, door alarms, and specialised mattresses for pressure care.

Our manager, is responsible for all the care services and staff within the home. She is a qualified, experienced RGN (registered nurse) who is committed to caring for elderly people.

A charge nurse with a full team of care staff facilitates the day-to-day running of our home. We also employ kitchen staff, maintenance and domestic staff.

The care team members at St Clements are specifically selected to meet the criteria required in a person-centred worker and undergo a continuous program of training, on both practical and theoretical levels. Our own training arm, Kingsley Academy, facilitates most of our training.

We pride ourselves on employing individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Nurturing – Being able to provide comfort, security and a sense of belonging
  • Togetherness – Being a friend to individuals on an equal basis, eliminating feelings of alienation and loneliness
  • Spontaneity – Being able to create opportunities which will engage individuals in a meaningful way
  • Feeling – Being able to be emotionally warm, offering closeness to each individual

Activities Are So Important

The majority of our residents at St Clements require nursing care as they have complex presentations interlinked with their dementia diagnosis. The staff are very capable of providing that level of care, fully understanding the meaning of real person centre care. To aid with this the staff members are skilled at engaging residents in meaningful activities. They also interact with the residents whenever appropriate and encourage them to follow their interests and make their own decisions.

There are group activities once a week and individual activities as residents wish at any time. Our optional activities list is always updated on the noticeboard and the activities chosen have excellent support from residents’ families.

We have celebration days; always mark the residents’ birthdays and have coffee mornings, tea parties, charity fund-raising events, theatre shows, musical entertainment, outings and arts and crafts, which are organised by our own staff.
