Meet The Manager

Joanne Fisher is Home Manager at South Park Care Home.

What makes the resident experience at South Park so special? We believe it’s our real sense of ‘family’ that has kindness, friendliness and respect right at its heart.

Residents come to us for general nursing care or specialised support for those living with dementia. Our dementia team also provides shortterm respite breaks to give home carers a well-earned break.

In every case we’re here to provide all the care each resident’s own family could wish for. You’ll find us in Acomb on the outskirts of York within easy reach of local shops and other amenities including transport links. All areas of our home are fresh and cheerful with a choice of lively or quiet communal spaces where residents can relax with each other or welcome family and friends.

Our Building and Facilities

Our recently-refurbished home provides interiors and facilities that are modern, bright and welcoming. We encourage all residents to make their bedrooms feel even more cosy by adding personal touches such as cherished pictures, mementos and items of furniture.

South Park residents can watch television, read or listen to music in our spacious lounges, or perhaps visit our own bar. All are perfect places to welcome friends and relatives. We also provide the specially soothing environment of our sensory room.

And, in the warmer months, everyone enjoys the fresh air in our two landscaped courtyard gardens planted with fruit and colourful blooms. We’d be delighted to show you around to experience our homely, welcoming atmosphere for yourself so please arrange to pop in for a chat.

The Importance Of Meal Times

There’s nothing quite like traditional home cooking to give everyone a lift.

We always ask residents and their families about their food preferences and dietary requirements. Our chef and catering team then work with dieticians to create meals that are nutritious and tasty, using fresh seasonal ingredients.

To add more variety, we also make a point of celebrating with special meals and events throughout the year. Residents can be served in our pleasant restaurant-style dining rooms or, if they prefer, they can take their meals in the privacy of their own rooms.

Activities Are So Important

Another way we can help our residents to feel at home is for them to do familiar things. So our dedicated Activities Leaders gently encourage residents to carry on doing things they enjoy. If someone had a hobby or pastime they did before they arrived, we’ll encourage them to continue it with us. Or perhaps they may like to learn something new.

The important thing is that we treat every resident as an individual. If they enjoy sharing time with others, either in our home or on an organised trip out, they’re most welcome. Or, if they prefer quiet time alone, we’ll respect that too.

At South Park we run a busy activities programme so that our residents can get the most out of every day, including bingo, visits from singers, and days out. We are also home to a pet rabbit and guinea pig, who our residents absolutely adore.

Our Pets

Residents at South Park Care Home in York welcomed two furry friends to their fur-ever home last week.

The two newest residents are a rabbit and guinea pig for the residents to look after.

Joanne Fisher, Home Manager, said: “We regular have animals and other creatures that visit the home as part of Pet Therapy, which goes down a real treat with the residents. However, we thought it was time to get our very own South Park pets. Many of our residents used to have pets before they came to us, and this is a nice way for them to have them whilst they live here. Everyone have made our little fur babies very welcome in their first few days here.”
