Meet The Manager

Blessing Adamu is Home Manager at Shaftesbury Court Residential Care Home.

Shaftesbury Court is an attractive care home located in a residential area of Erith, Kent.

A 15-minute drive from Erith Riverside Shopping Centre, our care home is in easy reach to a train and tube station, providing direct access to London and all its attractions, including the National History Museum.

Our dedicated team provides a range of care and support for our residents, including residential and respite care.

Our care home has been designed with the usual comforts you’d expect such as welcoming lounges, a light and airy dining room, a landscaped garden and cosy en-suite bedrooms, which provide a warm place for our residents to rest and relax.

However it’s the small personal touches and our friendly team, who care for our residents as if they were members of their own family, which make Shaftesbury Court a true home from home.

We welcome visits from family and friends and have an open door policy, so whether loved ones like to pop in for a coffee or take part in an activity, we encourage them to become part of the community within our home.

We hold regular meetings for residents and relatives, enabling our residents and their loved ones to be directly involved in everyday life at Shaftesbury Court.

Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.

To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.

Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Our catering team prides themselves on preparing nutritious, seasonal home-cooked meals, along with mouth-watering home-baked cakes for afternoon tea.

Residents help us to shape the menus and our catering team spends time with them to get feedback on the dishes and their likes and dislikes. They are also able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements.

Breakfast includes a wide variety of choice from cereals and toast to a traditional cooked breakfast.

Lunch and dinnertimes see a selection of sandwiches, home-made soups, salads, jacket potatoes and hot meals such as a Sunday roast with all the trimmings and favourites including fish and chips, cottage pie and a hearty casserole.

There is also an array of snacks and refreshments available throughout the day for residents and their loved ones if they get a bit peckish.

Activities Are So Important

We believe it is important that our residents spend their time as they choose, so have a dedicated activities person to support them to take part in interesting activities, rekindle old past times and try new things.

We have a hairdressing salon and our residents also enjoy being pampered with manicures and hand massages.

Regular activities on offer include everything from arts and crafts, bingo, quizzes, table-top games and support for charitable fundraisers. Our residents also enjoy regular visits from children at the local college and church groups.

Please find information on which activities and events we are currently running at Upton Dene below:

First Thursday – ‘Afternoon Tea and Games’

Join us at 2pm for games such as scrabble and cards, or simply pop in for a coffee, a cake and a friendly chat!

Second Thursday – ‘Green Fingers Gardening Club’

Join us at 2pm as we potter around the grounds, enjoy a spot of gardening, and learn about new plants and gardening techniques from visiting speakers and guests.

Third Thursday – ‘Gentle Exercise’

Join us at 11am for armchair exercises, laughter and light refreshments at a weekly class to help the mind, body and soul.

Fourth Thursday – ‘Sherry Social’

Join our residents from 2pm and finish the month with a well-deserved glass of sherry after a busy week of socialising, fun and games at Shaftesbury Court.

If you would like to join in the fun at any of Shaftesbury Court’s events, please call us on 01322 331 985.
