Meet The Manager

Andrea Crowley is General Manager at Alice Grange.

My name is Andrea, and I am the General Manager here at Alice Grange.

I am very passionate about leadership and providing excellent care focused on individual needs. I qualified as an RGN in 1998, and have worked at a managerial level since 2000, having also earned my RMA Level 4 (Registered Managers Award). I have a BSc (Hons) in Dementia Studies and, during my spare time, I study cosmetic dermatology.

My vision for Alice Grange is for it to become the best care home in Suffolk and to be awarded Outstanding certification by the Care Quality Commission. Our home will achieve this through delivering high-quality care that is tailored for each resident and by creating a whole home community supporting our residents to thrive and enjoy every aspect of life. We will provide all residents with the opportunity to engage in a range of meaningful activities, grow their experiences and learn new skills.

Andrea Crowley

Alice Grange is our purpose-built residential care home in Ipswich, specialising in 24-hour nursing care for older people and younger adults with physical disabilities or otherwise in need of care. Our care home is close to the beautiful East Anglian coast line, known for its Blue Flag beaches, and with good road links to the A12 and A14 trunk roads. Alice Grange is easily accessible from nearby towns like Colchester and Felixstowe.

Our care at Alice Grange is based around personalised care plans, drawn up with the individual and their family to ensure life at Alice Grange feels like home.

Alice Grange has one of our dedicated Memory Lane Communities, which are specifically designed to support people living with dementia. Corridors have points of interest, offering sensory stimulation and free access to a balcony garden. Alice Grange was one of first homes to be accredited as part of the Barchester 10-60-06 Dementia Care Programme, reflecting the enhanced quality of dementia care and improved quality of life experienced by residents.

The best way to get to know our Alice Grange care home is to arrange a visit. We welcome visitors, so please feel free to drop in and see if our home is right for you or your loved one.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We are delighted that the majority of our residents, patients and staff have now been vaccinated. And we'll do everything we can to ensure that all new residents, patients and staff are vaccinated, where medically able to to, or are willing o be vaccinated before moving in or working in our homes and hospitals.

We also ensure that any new residents and patients coming into our homes and hospitals , whether from the local hospital or the community have been tested in advance and are negative for COVID-19.

We continue to have a robust supply chain of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in place, and our staff are using this in accordance with the Government guidance. All of our staff, irrespective of their role will be wearing protective face masks at all times to ensure the safety of our residents and team.

We continue to implement our advanced cleaning practices, and have clear standards in the case of managing any confirmed or suspected cases.

All staff practise good hand and respiratory hygiene to prevent the spread of germs, and surfaces that are often touched are cleaned and disinfected frequently. We're proud to be the only care provider to win the RoSPA Health and Safety Award in both 2019 and 2020.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

The visiting suites are accessible internally by residents and externally by visitors, and are designed to resemble a living room - a warm and welcoming environment with comfortable furnishings.

The suite has an intercom system fitted so residents can clearly communicate, and engage in conversations, whilst being able to see their family and friends through  a Perspex glass divider fitted to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Food and Nutrition at our home

It is essential that the people we support have access to healthy food at all times, so our fantastic catering team are always on hand to prepare tasty and nutritious cuisine. Our food is always cooked to highest standard and with residents’ preferences always in mind. The importance of a balanced diet is never forgotten here, so we offer a varied menu that has something for everyone to enjoy, which you can sample below.

Dietary requirements

For residents that have difficulties in swallowing we modify the menu of the day so that is it a soft, palatable dish. To support our chefs in producing these dishes, our hospitality and Chef Academy organises theory and practical workshops. Working in partnership with Nutricia, our practical workshops involve all chefs and deputy managers learning about dysphagia and producing these modified menus. The chefs work with the chef trainer to prepare fork mashable and thick puree meals to the correct consistency, taste and presentation. The deputy managers can then ensure all modified menus served are presented correctly for our residents.

Attracting top chefs

Our chefs are recruited on the basis of an interview with the regional hospitality support team and the manager for the home. Selection also involves a practical element where potential cooks are asked to cook for and meet a panel of people living in the home. Chefs take their job extremely seriously and our annual Chef competition sees our chefs battle it out in regional heats and then at a national final for the accolade of 'Barchester's Chef of the Year'.
