Meet The Manager

Alex Grindle is Home Manager at OSJCT Lake House.

Alex joined The Orders of St John Care Trust in 2018 on the Trust’s trainee manager programme and is now Home Manager of Lake House Care Home in Adderbury. Alex began her career in care working for a domiciliary care provider and achieved levels two and five NVQs in Health and Social Care and Adult Health and Social Care Leadership and Management.

Alex found the trainee manager post an extremely beneficial way to gain experience and support from her colleagues in the Trust as she learned more about the role. She found her past experience of domiciliary care gave her an awareness of what it means to work in someone’s home and to be courteous of their space and surroundings: an ethos that she ensures is applied to the care residents receive at Lake House.

Being fully immersed in the day-to-day running of the home, Alex’s busy schedule can be different every day. She enjoys the diversity of the role and values moments with residents.

This home is set in an attractive residential cul-de-sac in the rural village of Adderbury, close to Banbury. Lake House offers a welcoming, warm atmosphere and is divided into four households.

Activities Are So Important

Activities:

Whether it’s wet or dry outside, we feel that activities are essential in providing the best caring environment to live in.

Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at Lake House. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships.

We are also fortunate to have the support of many volunteers of all ages from the local community, strengthening our links to this thriving market town. Here is a sample of activities on offer:

  • Trips to garden centres, cafés, pubs, sporting events, National Trust parks, wildlife parks, aquariums and museums.
  • Visit from Pets as Therapy Dogs

And that’s not all:

We’ve had silent discos, hoe downs, Chinese banquets, Oscar parties and so much more.

Many of the activities feature Reminiscence Therapy to aid those living with Dementia to remember events, people and places using sight, touch, taste, smell and sound.
