Meet The Manager
Sandra Smith is Care Home Manager at Northlea Court Care Home.
Sandra qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1994 and dived straight into the care sector. She has gained a wealth of knowledge from her various roles, including Deputy Manager and Home Manager. Sandra left the business for a year in 2011 before returning as a Home Manager: she has been in her current post at Northlea Court for 10 years.
When not at work, Sandra enjoys making and decorating cakes, and her favourite summer hobby is visiting her caravan in Northumberland every weekend.

What makes the resident experience at Northlea Court so special? We believe it’s our real sense of ‘family’ that has kindness, friendliness and respect right at its heart.
Some residents come to us for a brief respite stay, giving carers a well-earned break. Others receive longer term residential support ranging from simple assistance with everyday living to general nursing.
In every case we’re here to provide all the care their own family could wish for. Our home is set in the quiet residential area of Cramlington close to Brockwell’s shopping centre and amenities including public transport.
All areas of our home are fresh and cheerful with a choice of lively or quiet communal spaces where residents can relax with each other or welcome family and friends.

Our home provides interiors and facilities that are modern and welcoming. Most bedrooms have garden views and we encourage residents to make their rooms feel even cosier by choosing colour schemes and adding personal touches such as cherished pictures and mementos. Northlea Court residents have a choice of television lounges or quiet rooms, all perfect places to welcome friends and relatives. In the warmer months people also enjoy our landscaped gardens with their patio seating areas and rose arbour garden. Another way we can help our residents to feel at home is for them to do familiar things. So our dedicated Activities Leaders gently encourage residents to carry on doing things they enjoy. If someone had a hobby or pastime they did before they arrived, we’ll encourage them to continue it with us. Or perhaps they may like to learn something new. The important thing is that we treat every resident as an individual. If they enjoy sharing time with others, either in our home or on an organised trip out, they’re most welcome. Or, if they prefer quiet time alone, we’ll respect that too. We run a busy activities programme, including yoga, visiting entertainers, church services, days out, and weekly arts and craft sessions with children from the local nursery. At Northlea Court we also provide pet therapy, where Dolly the dog visits weekly. We have found pet therapy to be extremely beneficial to our residents, and Dolly never fails to put a smile on our residents’ faces. |
