Meet The Manager

Louise Vickers is Home Manager at Miramar Care Home.

"I have been a Registered Nurse for 12 years, starting my career in community nursing within the NHS before moving into care homes in 2018 and joining Miramar Care Home in 2024. My journey in care began at 17, working in a residential home in Larkfield, Kent. Alongside being a Registered Nurse, I am also a Specialist Practitioner District Nurse and was honoured to be awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse in 2022 by the Queen’s Nursing Institute.

At Miramar Care Home, I am proud to lead a compassionate and skilled team, ensuring every resident feels valued, safe, and cared for in a warm environment. I believe a positive atmosphere benefits both residents and staff.

Outside of work, I am married and have two sons and have a menagerie of pets, including dogs, cats, chickens, and parrots. I’m also a keen biker and currently ride a Harley Davidson."

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

In another step by Avery Healthcare to help relative visiting during the pandemic, the Group has invested in more outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’ to be installed at all Avery Healthcare homes.

The pods, installed by Wild Environments, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

Excellent care standards, beautiful surroundings and the independence of your own front door are all qualities that truly set Miramar Care Home apart. Our community is ideally situated in the garden of England, boasting a stunning coastal setting overlooking the sea, and a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home.

We recently converted our top floor to independent retirement living apartments. People kept asking us whether renting apartments without any care packages was possible, so we converted our entire top floor to offer this popular independent living arrangement.

With views of the busy sea lanes and walkers following the Kent Saxon Shore Way, our residence feels connected. With its free parking and the popular nearby towns of Whitstable and Margate, Miramar offers the perfect location to explore Kent and the wider southeast of England.

We welcome individuals and couples alike, whether you are seeking independent retirement living, residential care, or assisted living. We also offer shorter-term respite care and post-operative convalescence, and sometimes, the retired just want a break by the sea!

Activities Are So Important

With a wealth of activities that support the physical, social, and psychological well-being of our residents, there really is something for everyone, irrespective of their age, health, or background. We pay close attention to this by regularly talking to our residents about what they’re passionate about, what they’d enjoy doing more of, and how we can help them achieve their goals.

Activities aren’t limited to scheduled events. We understand that a true sense of purpose comes from daily living, be it through spontaneous activities, our ‘Avery in Bloom‘ competition or getting involved in daily tasks around the care home — we’ve even had residents who enjoy assisting at reception.
