Meet The Manager

Michele Message is Home Manager at Milner House.

I have worked as a Home Manager since I was 27 years old and earned my diploma in Dementia Care Matters and my Manager’s Award.

My favourite part of the day is spending time with residents and my team, catching up on the day’s events and how we can continue to improve in providing a caring home. My role is to be supportive, lead by example, and show strong leadership skills in any situation.

Set in an impressive listed Victorian mansion, Milner House care home in Leatherhead, Surrey has been carefully updated to provide the latest in nursing care, respite care and expert dementia care for up to 46 people in its generous sized rooms.

However, everything has been updated to provide the latest in older people’s care. We have a hair salon, beautiful lounges and each bedroom is spacious and light, with en-suite facilities. Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Deputy Manager

One of the best parts of the day is when I walk around the home. I have a chat with the residents and find out how they’re doing. There’s always something new to learn about a person, and just spending time with them makes all the difference to them, which is what it’s all about.

Becoming Deputy Manager of Milner House has definitely been the highlight of my career so far. I’m looking forward to working with the team to make the home an even more wonderful place to live and work.

Georgie Wilkins
Georgie Wilkins
Customer Relations Manager

I joined Care UK in March 2021 because I love supporting residents and the team at the home and helping with the local community.

My role requires good listening skills, empathy and really understanding the needs of the families and their loved ones. Everything runs smoother when you can communicate at all levels and be a real team player.

Hollie Hughes
Hollie Hughes
Lifestyle Lead

I decided to work in the care sector as I have experience of caring for a family member who was living with dementia. Relatives suggested I pursue care as a career, so I started out at Milner House in 2020 as a Care Assistant and progressed to my current role.

I love the difference you can make to people’s lives in this role. One of my stand-out experiences was arranging for a horse to visit the home to see one of the residents who loved these animals. They were over the moon, and it even made the local paper!

We’re a great team here at Milner House and there’s so much to look forward to. We’re always keen to find new ways to ‘wow’ the residents with activities and experiences, so make sure you keen an eye on our Facebook page to see what we’re doing.

Head Chef

I wanted to be part of an exciting and fast-moving company that empowers its people to do their best work.

I love how Care UK gives its head chefs control and freedom to tailor menus to suit the needs and tastes of residents. It’s really important because it enables us to deliver the best service and experience to the people we care for at Milner House.

Louise Baker
Louise Baker
Business Administrator

I’ve previously worked in customer relations, but I was interested in doing a role where I could give back to people and make a difference to their lives.

I’m pleased I moved into the care sector as each day is different and I love coming to work. Even a small amount of time spent with the residents of Milner House makes my day.

The best part of the day for me is walking around the home and speaking to the residents. Every resident is different and a real character. Getting to know them is a privilege, and nothing beats seeing them smile.

In this role it’s important to have a good attention to detail, to be patient and understanding and able to juggle multiple tasks. You also need to be willing to learn, as I’ve found that every day is a ‘school day’ – there’s always something new to absorb!

Activities Are So Important

We take pride in creating comfortable, safe surroundings where there’s a warm family atmosphere, designed to promote independence and wellbeing for the people we care for.

Our weekly programme of activities can range from painting to reminiscence, film shows to arts and crafts. Many residents enjoy playing card or board games.
Our location means that the seaside towns of Brighton and Littlehampton are an easy journey. We like to go on country drives or to a restaurant or garden centre for lunch.
Some residents find meaning and purpose from helping with small tasks around Milner House itself. We have keen gardeners and flower arrangers, or your loved one is welcome to help with a spot of DIY.
