Samantha Ealden is Home Manager at Acer House Care Home.
I have 20 years of experience within the healthcare sector and have achieved qualifications including Levels 2, 3, and 5 Health and Social Care Diplomas, PTTLS Level 3, and Level 3 Health and Safety. Working in residential and nursing settings, I have been lucky enough to have a variety of roles including, a Carer/Senior Carer, Home trainer, Housekeeping, Chef, Activities Co-ordinator, and Deputy Manager, gaining plenty of experience and valuable skills.
Within this time, I have shared many treasurable moments with the residents I have had the pleasure to meet along the way. One moment that I will cherish throughout my career was when I had the privilege to be taught how to knit by a very skilful resident living with dementia. It is such a great talent to withhold, and you will now often find me trying to join in with our knit-and-natter club.

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. There can’t be many residential homes that have their own beach hut, but ours is one of them, and it’s right on the Weston-Super-Mare sea front and very easy to get to. Soaking up the sea air and breeze is just one of the activities we do, though. Our lovely gardens, full of sweet peas, lupins and foxgloves suit the green-fingered, while inside there are plenty of singalongs, team games, quizzes and entertainment. Something for everyone. We take pride in going that extra mile: we even managed to arrange a trip on a Harley Davison for one of our ladies, who wanted to revisit her youth one more time. We welcome many local groups, schools and societies into our retirement home and enjoy the support of the wider north Somerset community. Acer House Care Home is situated about a mile from town and the seafront, meaning that excursions to the promenade, the beach or town centre are easy. Often we will meet with our recently opened sister care home in Clevedon and enjoy meeting some new people. We also take trips to local heritage sites and occasionally learn a lot from expert speakers from local museums and societies. |
