We pride ourselves on caring for our residents as though they were members of our own family. With this in mind our residential care homes are designed with all the usual comforts you would expect from home, creating a relaxing atmosphere with features such as cosy fireplaces and personalised bedrooms. In partnership with our residents and their loved ones we create a bespoke care plan to build a picture of not only their health and wellbeing needs, but their emotional needs and who they are as an individual. We tailor care and support to residents’ personal needs, so whether it’s something as simple as knowing they like a little extra sugar in their tea, to helping someone to rekindle a much-loved past time; we are there to help them to live life to the full. |

![]() Lucy CassidyActivity OrganiserLucy has worked at Ivydene for five years. The home’s dedicated activities leader Lucy Cassidy is so passionate about enriching her residents’ lives that she was shortlisted for the South West regional finals of the Great British Care Awards 2018 in the Care Home Activity Organiser category. The award celebrates individuals who provide activities which reflect their exceptional skills and creativity. Highlights in her nomination show her determination to make special wishes come true for every one of her residents. This happened for the home’s daredevil Winnie Davies, who receives residential care. Winnie dreamt of ice skating for the first time, so for her 102nd birthday Lucy made it happen. By pushing Winnie in her wheelchair smoothly along the ice, she brought absolute joy to the great, great grandmother. Winnie became the oldest person in South Hams to skate at Plymouth Pavilions. ![]() StevenAdministratorSteven has just celebrated his 25th anniversary at Ivydene. He said of his highlights: “I love the interaction with the residents and getting to know the wonderful individuals they are.” |
The Importance Of Meal Times |
---|
Forget everything you think you might know about care home food (conjuring up images of school-like dinners and over-boiled vegetables!) We recognise meal times have always been a focus for residents in our homes which is why we invest in fantastic chefs and catering staff who can deliver delicious, nutritious menus and create an enjoyable dining experience for our residents. Some of our residents enjoy getting involved in the preparation and serving of food! You can read more about this in our case studies. Person centred care home dining Cooked or continental? Sandwiches or hot food? The choice is yours with residents being involved in creating seasonal nutritional menus from old favourites to trying something new…there’s also always freshly baked cakes to enjoy for afternoon tea. Midnight snack? No problem, refreshments are available to residents throughout the day and evening if they get a little peckish. Dining with Dignity We encourage meal-times where residents can eat together and socialise in a relaxing environment but understand that residents may wish to enjoy food when they and where choose to have it. Our trained staff understand the importance of eating well and staying hydrated and supporting residents living with dementia to enjoy food in their environment – making food more visible through coloured crockery and more appealing whether it's pureed, finger foods or moulded. |

Ivydene will soon have a Namaste room for our dementia residents to enjoy, providing them total sensory stimulation and relaxation. The room will include a multi-sensory system which can play soothing music, project lights and images, has bubbles and fibre optic lights. This special piece of equipment will be mobile so that if a resident is receiving nursing or palliative care, it can be used in their bedrooms. |
