Companionship and Care at Our Rugeley Care Home

Horse Fair Care Home in Rugeley is a well-established community of elderly residents from across Staffordshire. We offer residential care and respite care for those seeking support, as well as a dedicated suite in which we offer the highest quality dementia care in Rugeley. Couples and companions are warmly welcomed in our home where their well-being, comfort, and happiness are our top priority.

Our location in the centre of the town means that local amenities are close by and our connection with local volunteer groups assures a respected place within the Rugeley community.

We make a point of celebrating the lives of our residents who all have a stake in the direction of life within our care home. Families and friends are encouraged to give us their views too and, more formally, can join one of our committees. It is by concentrating on the residents in a holistic way that we get the best out of them and offer the best residential, dementia and respite care in Rugeley. We are minds as well as bodies, and to that end we have an energetic recreation and leisure team who devise a wide programme of activities and social engagements for residents and families.

Bedrooms are of generous proportions, come with en-suite, walk-in showers and flat-screen TVs. Our housekeepers keep the rooms in beautiful order and will always make sure that any personal ornaments and keepsakes are carefully dusted!

Our Butterfly Café is just one of the spots where residents enjoy the companionship of others over a cup of tea. There are a good variety of lounges to choose from too, some where clubs and societies meet, and others where you can just be quiet and enjoy a daily newspaper or magazine.

To see what we get up to at Horse Fair head over to our dedicated Facebook page. Here we share updates on all the activities and goings on in our Rugeley care home. You are also welcome to call our friendly care team if you have any questions or would like to arrange to come in and get to know us.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe
We are confident that our care homes are now some of the very safest places to live and work.

All of our staff have been trained in additional and heightened cleansing protocols and hygiene regimes, and these are being supported by a leading sanitisation system as part of our comprehensive infection controls. Testing regimes will continue for staff, residents and visitors.

We have re-aligned the resident in-house services to meet social distance guidance from the Government, for areas such as lounges and dining rooms, and for visiting entertainers and hair dressers; we are working hard to restore these services within the ‘new normal’ circumstances as soon as we can, when lockdown rules allow.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) - Regulator’s Assessment

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

Our full-time Activity Coordinators ensure that residents have the opportunity to enjoy their days to the full. We are lucky in that we have a grand piano, and there is nothing we like better than having a good old singsong.

Other things we might do include:

• Flower arranging

• Knitting (Come on gents, you can have a go too!)

• Shopping trips into Rugeley

• Spending time in the sensory garden

• Going down the pub

• Walking in the park

• Going out to Staffordshire heritage sites

Residents are free to come and go as they please; Rugeley town centre is only a few minutes’ walk away. But we are good at organising trips out in the minibus that take residents on excursions further afield.

In the warmer months residents make great use of the outside patio area, which is completely enclosed for privacy, a perfect place for outdoor exercise or just a nice cup of tea. This area includes a brand new sensory garden, designed to provide a variety of sensory stimuli with its aromatic plants.

Popular among our activities are the reminiscence sessions in which residents look back over the years and discuss major historical events both local and international. They very much enjoy remembering where they were at key times and we often find friendships forming and strengthening during these sessions. This is very popular with our residents who live with dementia.

We know how important it is for our residents to keep in touch with family and friends, so we provide free Wi-Fi throughout the home. Computers are available for Skype, email or just browsing. Don’t forget to check out our Facebook pages!
