Meet The Manager

Sonia Silva is Home Manager at Abbeycrest Nursing Home.

I’m a qualified Nurse with a background in care of the elderly, and have worked all around the world in a variety of care home settings.

As Manager I enjoy the variety of each day and always take great pleasure from time spent talking to residents and relatives. I particularly love the reward of seeing a resident respond positively to the care and comfort provided by my Care Team at the home.

Sonia Silva

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We will consistently apply infection control procedures and services that meet or exceed the requirements and
expectations of our customers, actively pursuing continuous improvement through practices which enable each team member to do their job right the first time and every time.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.

Safe Visiting Space

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

Our home’s bedrooms and communal areas have been designed and furnished to the highest standards using bespoke materials, with a blend of traditional fabrics, wallpapers and furnishings to create a real home from home environment.

We believe that our kitchenettes in the dining areas, where residents can relax together over a tea or coffee, help to enhance communal living in the home and give residents more opportunities to socialise.

Our dementia care provision at Abbeycrest has been designed to meet the University of Stirling’s standards, which are widely acknowledged as providing the best environment for people living with dementia. Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre is renowned as the world leader in this field.

By using the Stirling approach we can ensure that residents are able to move freely around the home, with bedrooms and communal areas appropriately laid out and clearly signposted to minimise confusion or disorientation. Each bedroom features a memory box by its front door, where mementos from our residents’ lives help to personalise their rooms, as well as to remind visitors and our Care Team of each resident’s life story.
