Meet The Manager

Stacey Lennon is Home Manager at Highcliffe Care Centre.

"I started my career at Avery in 2015 and have progressed from care assistant to Home Manager. I encourage a supportive, open culture in which we learn and grow together. This will aid the delivery of exceptional care. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in management and leadership for health and social care, along with qualifications in dementia care.

Highcliffe takes pride in delivering high standards of care, and we work hard to ensure we also promote a culture of #onefamily that not only enriches the lives of those in our care through our approach to well-being but also those of the staff.

The whole team is involved in ensuring excellent outcomes for those in our care. I believe laughter is the best medicine and enjoy an environment full of giggles, singing and enjoyment at Highcliffe. I look forward to welcoming you to our community."

Stacey Lennon

Situated in Witherwack, a quiet residential area north of Sunderland city centre, Highcliffe Care Home has gained a reputation across Tyne and Wear for the excellence of its care and strong sense of community. Couples and companions are warmly welcomed in our home, where their well-being, comfort, and happiness are our top priority.

Our residential care home in Sunderland offers excellent dementia care and support and has been rated as gold standard by Sunderland City Council – a fact we are all very proud of.

A Proud Sunderland Care Home

Our care home in Sunderland is situated close to the Fulwell Quarry Nature Reserve, which isn’t too far from the sea. Highcliffe Care Home is light and airy throughout, and the good-sized bedrooms come with en-suite washrooms.

The lounges are inviting spaces for social activity or just for sitting quietly, and the garden is a lovely spot for activities or to enjoy a warming cup of tea. There are also plenty of seats, a gazebo and raised beds full of plants for our green-fingered residents.

While it is nice to be acknowledged for excellence, we prefer to be judged on the well-being of our residents. For more information, check out our Facebook page, which catalogues the day-to-day activities of our care home in Sunderland.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe
We are confident that our care homes are now some of the very safest places to live and work.

All of our staff have been trained in additional and heightened cleansing protocols and hygiene regimes, and these are being supported by a leading sanitisation system as part of our comprehensive infection controls. Testing regimes will continue for staff, residents and visitors.

We have re-aligned the resident in-house services to meet social distance guidance from the Government, for areas such as lounges and dining rooms, and for visiting entertainers and hair dressers; we are working hard to restore these services within the ‘new normal’ circumstances as soon as we can, when lockdown rules allow.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) - Regulator’s Assessment
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, regulators have assessed the preparedness of care providers in relation to infection prevention and control. Details of the regulator’s latest findings can be found below.

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

Well, it can be on a nice sunny day and an ice cream in your hand. Highcliffe is only a short drive to the beach, so you’ll often find our minibus heading that way, and its occupants enjoying a bracing stroll. Life within our care home is always stimulating and varied as we recruit energetic Activity Coordinators whose job it is to provide something that everyone can get involved in, whatever their interests, every day of the week. Besides being on the beach, you might find us:

• Making collages
• Planting petunias
• Fashioning jewellery
• Enjoying a Sit and Be Fit session
• On a trip to the Washington Wetlands Trust

We like our forays away from our nursing home and visit all manner of local Sunderland attractions, whether it’s trips to the theatre, bird watching in the countryside or just a Sunday lunch down at the local pub. Our family and residents’ committee plays an important role in choosing activities and steering home life in general. After all, it is their lives!
